Henry Miller Theater question

Henry Miller Theater question

Henry Miller Theater question#1

Posted: 7/24/08 at 7:47am

Recently toured the new Bank of America building on 42nd street with a friend who offices there, but didn't realize the Henry Miller Theater was originally on the site, and was rebuilt inside the building, scheduled to open this fall. Last info I can find on this is from over a year ago, nothing on the Roundabout site.

Anyone have any updated info on the status of re-opening this theater, and what production will open it?

Since when does Henry Miller's Theatre have anything to do witgh Roundabout? Yes, I know the Cacret revival started there, but they just rented it. The last tenant was Urinetown.

The Roundabout is apparently going to have this as their third Broadway house when it re-opens.

It was announced a long time ago that Roundabout bought the new Henry Millers' theatre. It was slated to oopen this fall. However, after hearing the new lineup Roundabout has for their 08-09 season, nothing mentioned them in the Henry Miller's theatre yet.

No it wasn't. Roundabout doesn't own it. Henry Miller's Theatre is owned by its longtime owners, the Durst Organization, and now, co-owned with Bank of America. Roundabout was in discussions for a 20 year lease of the theatre, which would serve as a home for their own productions that they want to have an extended life, or for other tenants that would negotiate with Roundabout for the space if its not in use with a Roundabout production.

And Roundabout is planning a production at the theatre for this 2008-2009 season, but it will be coming a little bit later than this fall.

I hope they'll have escalators because that's a lot of stairs to get down to the subterranean Orchestra section. The last row of the balcony is the only thing on street level!

I'm guessing industrial elevators from street level to lower it backstage?

I'm sure there's a back loading dock of some sort. I wonder where the "stage door" will be? I'm so interested for this theater to open. I love walking by it, but the building that it's "part of" is surprisingly smaller than I thought. There isn't much "building" above the Henry Miller facade.

That mockup is beautiful.

Although, I wish they'd just do a "return engagement" of Urinetown when the theatre opens, since it had to close only because the theatre was.

Any word or new news on the opening of this theater? I'm guessing Roundabout isn't looking to open anything in the theater this season?

Not this season. There have been rumblings about something next season though.
