Hercules

First of all, I'm NOT a fan of movies being turned into stage musicals. But if it HAS to be done, I wouldn't mind Hercules coming to the stage. In fact, I'm surprised that Disney has put other films on stage before this one. I think it needs a good bit of work, as far as the main characters and most of the music goes, but I LOVE the muses and their songs, and I think "Zero to Hero" would make a KILLER Act I finale/ Act II opener! As far as casting goes, I could see Christopher Sieber playing Hercules, but I'd prefer an unknown. Call me crazy, but I'm seeing Idina as Meg. A bit old (for THIS role) perhaps, but I think she's got the voice, the sex appeal, and the attitude to run with the role. I'd like to see Alan Cumming as Hades. It's the kind of role he seems to go for and I think he'd be great.

I am thinking that Sara Ramirez could pull it off.

Hercules is one of my all time favorites, I watched it sooo many times as a kid and sang along as Meg/the muses/everyone. But, I don't think it would do too well on the stage, and I'd hate for it to ruin such a brilliant thing as the movie.

I think it has all the making of a Broadway musical. I think that the stage could improve it. Maybe adding a song or two for Meg would really help heighten her character. I can also see a big number for Hades, one for Zeus, maybe a ballad for Hera, and a few more for Hercules. I think that the movie's pace was really weird, personal thing. I think it coming to the stage would prvide a chance for writers to fix those odd moments and little problems of the film.

After taking a bus-load of ballerinas to see "Tarzan" and then having to clean up their metaphorical vomit during intermission, we all agreed that "Hercules" would have been a far more fun and exciting Disney movie to produce into a musical. It's got great songs, great costumes and sets, a familiar story, would provide amazing visuals (the Hydra?)...

And let's be honest, we know after successes like "Little Shop", "Hairspray," "Caroline or Change," and "The Color Purple" a trio of black women (in this case, 7 muses) would be KILLER!

In short, close the vile "Tarzan" and create "Hercules" if you absolutely MUST have another Disney conglomerate on the Great White Way.

I agree with the people who said earlier that Susan Egan should play Meg in a Broadway version of Hercules. Either her or Stephanie D'Abruzzo. For Hercules I don't know. I know a guy who could play young Hercules but I don't want to put his name for safety reasons obviously, but he can sing really, really well. He's around 17 years old. As for adult Hercules, I'm not sure who should play him. I'm thinking Kevin Sorbo, but I have no idea if he can sing lol. I think Nathan Lane would be a great Pain or Panic. Both of the characters or funny. Max Casella would be great as one of them too. Hades is a tough one. Jack Nicholson might possibly be good as him. He does have a decent singing voice too.(He sings in "Anger Management" and "As Good As It Gets" for those who haven't seen those movies) For the narrators of Hercules, Jennifer Hudson could definately play one of them. Also that girl who's currently on Amreican Idol named Melinda Doolittle would be great. I don't know who else though. Hercules is a really great movie and I think it would do well on stage. Most disney shows have. The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast have been on Broadway since the 90's. If it is made into a show someday, Hades should definately have a song, something evil like the songs Scar has in The Lion King, but comedic as well. Hercules and Meg should have a couple more too.

Next halloween, all of my friends are being Disney characters, and I'm being Meg.

One time, Patti LuPone punched me in the face...

I think that Marc Kudisch could be Hades. Cheyenne as Hercules. Hunter Foster would be good. Since I love him and yeah basically any role for him. :)
Also, I am thinking of Norbert Leo Butz as Phil. Why? I dunno.
I do agree with John Lithgow for Hades too. That would be awesome.

I think Hercules would be absolutely FABULOUS on Broadway!!! Unfortunately the film did not do too well so I'm not sure how big of an audience it would generate. The movie is soo good though, I don't know wh more people didn't like it. I personally think that even though Susan Egan was great in the film she is too old to play the role on stage. Mara Davi or Jessica Lee Goldyn as Megara is perfection. Hercules should be some amazing new unknown actor because no one immediately comes to mind. Phil MUST be Harvey Firestein!!! Hades - mmm. This one is tough. Patrick Page comes to mind although I'm sure he must be getting tired of playing the villian. Tim Curry!!! Hera should be Rebecca Luker. Zeus - not sure yet. The two buffoon helpers of Hades - not sure either. The Muses should be the same ladies that did the voices for the film since most of them are Broadway actresses.

This show would be INCREDIBLE if done correctly!! Effects, choreography, etc. Young actors for Hecules & Megara is absolutely necessary.
