Here Lies Love will be eligible in the Best Musical category and Gutenberg! The Musical! will be eligible in the Best Revival of a Musical category.

I do so hope that HLL is remembered come Tony time..... totally deserves a Best Musical nod, as well as acting and creative categories

Scenic and Lighting nominations seem like sure bets even at this point. Anything else is up in the air right now, depending on how the season shakes out.

Unless Merrily and Cabaret split votes the right way I would be SHOCKED if Gutenberg won revival, however it certainly has a much stronger chance at a nomination in that category which would probably boost its future licensing prospects ect

Even if Merrily and Cabaret split the vote, which seems somewhat plausible, there would still have to a block of voters who thought Gutenberg was better than those two shows for it to win. That part I just can't visualize.

If you need help, it has a 89 on Show Score so clearly it is connecting with people, just because you didn't like something doesn't mean others didn't...

It's not that I didn't like it, I actually did. But what stands out about the show are Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells as comedic performers, not what a great musical it is. While that's obviously just my opinion, it's also how the show is being marketed.
All the promos around the show I've seen show Gad and Rannells talking, and don't feature songs from the show.

Because it is not the kind of show you can really pull a song out of context and it will make sense to a morning show audience in a three minute chunk.

really not sure why the producers wanted it to be considered new where it would have had zero chance at a nomination, so its score and book could be eligible?

Despite Cara Joy David’s apparent confusion over this, I think the Tonys committee has been consistent in judgment on what is eligible for revival or new musical over the years. It’s always been a consideration of both time since a work’s premiere and its production and licensing history.

My loyalty was with Merrily 100%, but then I saw Sunset last Thursday and I just don't know what I would do with those two If I were an actual voter. I am willing to overlook the flaws in the Merrily production, because the the sum total is so exhilarating, But Sunset is astonishing. Jamie Lloyd is a genius. It needs to be recorded because ALL the voices are superb, and who knew Sunset could be such a brilliant dance musical. This is one of the great reinventions of our time.
