This discussion has been had before. Completely original musicals are very few and far between. Movies have been made into musicals for a long time now.

I dont think movies being adapted into musicals is a bad thing as long as they actually do an ADAPTATION and not an exact copy of the movie onstage with songs.

I think this one has a lot more potential than, say, Legally Blonde. re: High Fidelity to open in Boston

I saw an interview with NLB once about doing a role originally done by Steve Martin on Broadway and he made a good point, many plays on Broadway were originally adapted from books, and many movies are adpated from books, so the source really isn't the issue but moreso the interpretation
