A) I don't think you can really label Posner as "coming out". I think he is still unsure of himself and just seeking some advice due to the fact that he is uncertain of the feelings that he is having. Also, which two people are you referring to?
B) I think it's hard coming out depending on who you are. I wouldn't make sweeping statements like that.

I'm assuming muscle23ftl is referring to the scene with Irwin and Mrs. Lintott in the teacher's/staff room. And if this is indeed the case, I think you missed the fact that Irwin's recounting the meeting he had with Posner and Mrs. Lintott wasn't there for the discussion with Posner (hence her whole "they never come to me with their problems" line)...If that's not what you were referring to, my apologies.
I basically agree with bjh. Posner wasn't necessarily "coming out." In one respect he's sort of seeking advice from Irwin, and on another level, as Scripps says at some point, he was trying to find out if Irwin was in the same boat re: Dakin ("wanting company").

Two things...
The scene with Irwin, Mrs. Lintott and Posner is being played in two different times. It's Irwin relating to Mrs. Lintott the earlier conversation he had with Posner. Posner only talks about his homosexuality to Irwin, and the reason for that may be because as Posner says later to Scripps, Posner and Irwin share a mutual interest in Dakin. It's possible that Posner goes to talk to Irwin because he feels they have something in common.
Secondly, Posner doesn't really come out. He's out, and I don't think he's the least bit unsure of himself. He knows he's gay. All of the boys and teachers know he's gay. He's completely candid with everyone about his crush on Dakin, and in fact, as Mrs. Lintott says to Irwin, Posner is testing Irwin to see what sort of reaction he is going to get from him. "Next time, he'll go further," she says.

Posted: 6/25/06 at 1:31amYou definitely missed how that scene is being played out. If you notice at one point Lintott asks Irwin if there was anything else, and Irwin says there wasn't. Then Lintott leaves and the remainder of the scene is Posner and Irwin...thus showing you the parts of the conversation that he opted not to tell Lintott about.
