maybe a few more rehearsals would've been handy.

Posted: 6/27/07 at 10:56amI didn't really care for Holliday in this. Which is suprising because I'm a HUGE fan. I think she'll never out-do her performance @ the 1982 Tony's. Jennifer Hudson was much more enjoyable in this. I don't know, Holliday was just strange.

Posted: 6/27/07 at 11:29amThe two Effies came full circle... I'm glad to see the two women who potrayed that role to a slew of honors got a chance to peform together. Now, hopefully Jennifer Hudson can move on and not get trapped in it, and Holliday can say stop making those faces. It was great, thanks for posting the video.

Jennifer ruined it, I love her, and just saw her in concert in Philly, where she sang the song in a normal key, but this reminded me of the diva duel between Diana Ross and Patti Labelle at Live Aid, where Patti tried to out scream Diana. In the end Patti’s career took a dive because of the screaming and not singing, and Diana, at that time became much more famous and sold more singles.

Posted: 6/27/07 at 12:26pmI don't think Patti's career took a dive because of her screaming. That's Patti and always has been. I have been going to her concerts since the late 70's and she always lets loose on stage. I think her career slowed one because of the change in the music industry and also because of things she was going through personally (One being the divorce from her husband. Wasn't pretty)

Posted: 6/27/07 at 12:30pmI think Patti has the best voice out of all the classic legendary R&B/Soul female singers. She's pretty amazing - and it's a shame she doesn't sell more records. She still releases records quite often.

Posted: 6/27/07 at 12:35pmShe and Chaka Kahn are my favorites. Patti has a Gospel CD out now.

Posted: 6/27/07 at 12:35pmPatti has one of the greatest belting voices ever! Her version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow is still amazing to me plus her trademark arms in flight is great too.

Posted: 6/27/07 at 12:41pmI've seen her sing it a few times. Including the year she recorded it. If anyone watched all of the BET Awards, you would have seen her do "Wind Beneath My Wings" during the tribute to Gerald Lavert. She was quite emotional as Mr. Lavert was a close friend of hers. Yolanda Adams, Gladys Knight and Laverts brother (I think) from the group Lavert sang with her. That made my "gay head explode" more then the 2 Jennifers!!!

Posted: 6/27/07 at 1:36pmI love Patti, but remember back then she used to complain bitterly about not reaching the same level of stardom, and it was no doubt about her screaming. DR mentioned the same thing in an interview, and then they didn't talk forever. I think Jennifer Holiday is awesome. I love her "I'm on your side" and was disappointed she didn't sing it when she came to Philly last month. I thought Jennifer Hudson did a great redition of the song. Did anyone see Patti at carnegie hall last Saturday?

OMG, I just watched it and that was absolutely FANTASTIC. Hudson was great on her parts but whoever says Holliday doesn't still have it needs to have their ears checked. She had the hardest parts of the song, all the grueling parts and that woman knocked it out. Hudson was lovely but I still want to hear her sing this ENTIRE song live, all the challenging parts. I find it odd that after all this time, she sings it live and has Holliday on to do the most difficult part of the song. Why's that?
Anyway it was still great, Holliday girl talk about acting out a song, that gasp at the end was like WOW.

It was pretty damn amazing...a duet for the ages...
Holiday did kind of scare me though...she kinda looked a little drag queen like.
Did anyone ever see her on the first season of Ally McBeal? She did a hilarious song called "Short People"...she was the lead in a choir. She did all her trademark stuff...classic Holiday.
One thing...JHud? JHo?...you know who is to blame...damn Jennifer Lopez. Grrrrr

- On the after show this man (not sure who he was - he had something to do with the awards though) said they split the parts up equally together. They both chose their favorite part of the song. Hudson said her favorite part was the "Stay with me, stay stay" - and Holliday's favorite was the "tear down the mountains" - so that worked out great for them. The song was NOT split up by vocal ability - but by what parts the ladies wanted.

And I am telling you...HA HA HA! I'm not go-HA HA-in. HA! You're the best man I've ever known. HA! There-Ha-'s no way I can ever HA HA HA!
I love them both (Holiday 30 times more) but honestly? That was too much. It was almost a mockery. Sad. I still love the bitch though. She tears it up.

Posted: 6/29/07 at 5:21pmHolliday was AWFUL. She made Hudson look even more amazing than she already is! I don't understand how anyone can think she wasn't anything but horrendous- my roommates and I were like cracking up because she sounded so bad. I know she was great back in the day but come ON, she does not have it anymore.
#72re: Holliday and Hudson STUNNER
Posted: 6/29/07 at 5:22pmFinally saw it. I thought it was a train wreck. I thought Holliday's head was going to explode. Hudson seemed off of her game as well.

Posted: 6/29/07 at 5:40pmAm I the only one who doesn't care for Holliday? She growls notes. Doesn't sing them. GROWLS them. Also, when she riffs (and even when she doesn't) she searches for the note and is flat/sharp more then she is on key!

Not the only won. Loved her at first but she's lost her star quality and her voice.
I think Jesus took it when she "converted".
