According to Tally Sessions, who plays Jigger in Goodspeed's CAROUSEL, there are certain factions in the town who are harassing the company:

"There's a propensity for some local Connecticut boys to scream homophobic slurs at Goodspeed cast members as they drive by in their cars. I wonder how tough these gutless f*cks would be if they weren't driving by at 30 mph? My rage is starting to bubble."

These are probably the same scum whose parents are buying tickets. Follow the chain of command. Videotape the license plate numbers, demand that the board of the theatre lodge complaints to the police, or do it yourself. If the theatre is unsympathetic, pool your resources and make sure the community knows how homophobic the theatre (of all places!) is being. Theatres don't like being hit in the box-office, if you know what I mean.

It is incredibly inappropriate to attribute the attitudes of some people in the community to a theater organization. They are not the police, and have no ability (much less any right) to enforce any law or stop harassment by members of the public.

African-American performers working at Goodspeed have also been heckled on the streets of East Haddam. Obviously, the good ole' boys there are equal-opportunity jerks.

I didn't say the theatre was homophobic. I said that if the theatre proves unsympathetic or inattentive to their actors' plight, the performers may need to take action themselves to notify the authorities, and to make this deplorable situation known to the community at large, given the thought that sometimes bad press is better than no press at all.

What I said was "inappropriate" was holding the theater responsible for the actions of a few jerks (possibly dangerous jerks) in the surrounding area. You might as well blame Shakespeare in the Park for muggers in Central Park.

I am confident that (1) the theater administration will do everything possible to protect its actors, and (2) if the actors want to report harassment to the police, they can do so. Legally, unless the actors are minors, the theater cannot pursue legal remedies unless the individuals themselves choose to do so.

I'm suggesting that the matter be brought up to the Chamber of Commerce. The Goodspeed Opera House brings considerable revenue to the restaurants and shops near the theater. They should be only too willing to help stop this nonsense.

Reagan. AIDS. Nobody in the government really cared. Nancy was too busy preaching to kids about not smoking weed. People died very tragic deaths way too young.

Belief in God doesn't mean you're homophobic. It means you know gays are sinners and deserve death. There's really no such thing as "homophobia". It's a word made up by liberal's to demean His Word. What you call homophobia is really just the truth. Simple as that.
