Posted: 3/4/09 at 5:07pmIncredibly long and prosperous career and great contributor to American stage. Thank goodness he was able to stretch his legs on the Rialto one last time (and Signature is gonna keep his stuff a-rollin' along). Great legacy within his family too.

Wow, that article is 0 for 2. He didn't win the Tony for Young Man from Atlanta, and he didn't win the Drama Desk for Dividing the Estate. Well done playbill.com!
R.I.P. Mr. Foote. Your body of work will be well-remembered.

So sad, but it is wonderful that he did what he loved to do right until the end. One of my fondest acting memories was playing the role of the sheriff in "The Trip to Bountiful." He will be greatly missed.

Crazy...I was in the same audience with him at the first preview of Hartford Stage's To Kill a Mockingbird just like two weeks ago.
Wow.

Posted: 3/4/09 at 5:32pmDeath is inevitable. But to be able to live a long life, earning your living doing what you love until your last moment is quite rare. Thank you, Mr. Foote for your contributions, and my thoughts are with his family.

Posted: 3/4/09 at 5:37pmWow, may he rest in peace! I am still so honored to have sat one seat away from him during a performance of "The Trip to Bountiful" and then to shake his hand after.

Well said, WBAF.
I remember seeing him proudly walk on stage at opening night of Dividing the Estate, and being very moved that such a legend was able to share his opening night with us. That was only a few months ago.

At least, he got to see Dividing The Estate make it to Broadway.
A great loss.

I worked with him in college extensively as well as working on a festival bearing his name
Its very surreal and sad... he was such a treasure professionally and personally

A great and very quiet, elegant giant of the theater. I remember when we premiered DIVIDING THE ESTATE in Cleveland almost 20 years ago, and produced a mini-festival of his work. Astounding, especially his scripts for early television.
RIP Mr. Foote.
