How About a Revival of THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS?

Posted: 3/12/08 at 5:16pmI've been listening a lot to "Bus From Amarillo" and "Hard Candy Christmas" lately as well as watching those great clips posted on the forbidden site. It all makes me wish that BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS had a top-notch Broadway revival with a fantastic actress/singer as Miss Mona. What do you guys think? Any casting ideas? Who could direct?

Posted: 3/12/08 at 5:45pmOnly if they include "A Friend to Me". I'm still upset that Reba wasn't considered for the South Pacific revival. It's clear she's not what they were looking for, but still...

I would LOVE Reba in this.. but would also love to see someone a little younger in the role like a Sherri Rene Scott.

There is, i guess no real age limit on this part? When the Broadway production came to London in 1981, the wonderful Carlin Glynn took away the award for Best Actress In a Musical that year. A brilliant production that i saw 3 times.

Only one person was born to play this role.
Reba McEntire.
She can bring things to the role that never existed before.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Original Broadway Revival Cast Recording crosses over into the Country music charts due to her involvement with it.

Reba would be perfect for the role and I'm all for a revival of this great show that I first saw Off-Broadway and twice after it moved to Broadway. While it's not all that apparent from the cast recording, the role of the Sheriff is key and care should be taken not to base the casting on the way the role was screwed up in the motion picture. Come to think of it, aside from the Aggie scene everything about the film was screwed up

Reba's said that she doesn't want to return as a replacement or in a revival. However, I would like to see her return as Mona.
And if they are going to use "A Friend to Me" it needs to be put at the end of Act I. It fits the action better there.

Posted: 3/12/08 at 11:51pmWasn't the original end with Bus from Amarillo with the girls leaving and the bad guys celebrating the closing of the Chicken Ranch? That has to be one of my favorite endings in a musical, ever. I hope they could leave that.

Yea, the original, by the time it opened, had Bus For Amarillo as the closing song. The girls had left. Mona sings it alone on stage.

Oh...I don't know why I have the image of her singing while the girls cross with suitcases in the background and the bad guys celebrate on top of that wooden structure. May be another production.
Just imagine all those shirtless hunks dancing the Aggie song...can it open now???

Posted: 3/13/08 at 2:17amLet's not have a revival of this awful show. The material is dated! "Girl You're A Woman Now" has such a wonderful message. the way to become a woman is to become a whore!

"Come to think of it, aside from the Aggie scene everything about the film was screwed up"
I thought Charles Durnings turn doing "The Side Step" was fun - especially considering how bad everything else was.

And yea, Reba would be perfection as Mona.
