Posted: 3/5/08 at 6:14amhonestly, they closed the balcony last night and upgraded everyone's tickets to Dress Circle. Even then, excluding the balcony, the theatre looked half empty, with many front row seats avalible. The energy was excellent, but I'm worried about the fate of this show.

Posted: 3/5/08 at 6:20amI don't know how good of an indication the lottery is, but last Thursday I happened to be in the McDonald's when they were drawing and there were tickets left over.
LIVE THAT LESSON!!!!!!

Posted: 3/5/08 at 7:03amWell, I can only speak from my experience ! Out of the 9 shows I have got tickets so far for April, YF's were the easiest and the best !!
#3re: How BAD is Young Frankenstein realy doing?
Posted: 3/5/08 at 8:17amIs the original cast still under contract? I've had a desire to see Megan Mulally & co. in this and if the lottery is near 100%, might as well do it soon.

They've started running television ads too.
"ALL tickets $40-$120!"
Sounds like people got scared away by the premium ticket hype

Posted: 3/5/08 at 9:06amThis very mediocre musical will probably make it's $$$ back but will run only 1 year- after Megan Andrea And Sutton leave- the ship will sink.....the greedy bastards timed their $450 seats all wrong....with a depressed economy, et. al. The hubris!- they deserve to beg for people to buy seats-Brooks won't dare try Blazing Saddles- he is old news now....but a multi billion $$$ one

#8re: How BAD is Young Frankenstein realy doing?
Posted: 3/5/08 at 9:20amSutton Foster is leaving sometime in July and I would guess that the rest of the cast has one year contracts. Although it's hard to say if those contracts start from the beginning of the run in Seattle or the Broadway run.

Posted: 3/5/08 at 10:13amWondering why this is (I think) the only show in recent memory that dosn't post its grosses, I guess that Mel Brooks wants to create the illusion that this is a hot ticket, even when it's not.
#11re: How BAD is Young Frankenstein realy doing?
Posted: 3/5/08 at 10:23amI don't think Mel Brooks wants to admit failure. Wah wah. Oh well, at least Sutton has another job lined up after this show!

I think he didnt post the grosses so that it wouldn't be an embarassment if the show had to post bad numbers. This way, all we can do is speculate--and he probably hoped that everybody would hear that $450.00 number and assume the show is doing well.
On a related note, it was GREAT to see the Ambassador Theater almost full on Monday night! : ) I guess some shows were just meant to last..........

Posted: 3/5/08 at 11:04amI really don't know why he decided not to post grosses, but I am almost sure, that the thought of the show not doing well, didn't even cross his mind back then !

I can only imagine Brooks' thought process....
Mel: "Note to self. Highest ticket price in history...NOT a good thing to advertise. Next time, let's go a different route."

You would have to wonder with the show not selling well and being on TKTS almost every week recently that Brooks & Co. will lower ticket prices. Make the orchestra & front mezz $111, rear mezz & front balcony $75 & rear balcony $40.
I have tickets for May 14 in the front balcony. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to moved down.

Posted: 3/5/08 at 11:46amIt's not a very good show, and deserves what it gets! Although I do feel bad for the cast, they are doing their best.

Posted: 3/5/08 at 2:27pmEven though it's killing me, I'm not gonna gloat. But being a Pirate Queen fan, I will say that the Hilton is IMPOSSIBLE to fill, I guess even with a Mel Brooks musical. So for the YF fans who agonize over the empty seats in the house, I sympathize.

The same used to be said about the Gershwin.

Posted: 3/5/08 at 4:16pmIs it worth it to mention that Variety is reporting this show is making around a million a week? If we can trust their numbers, it's right behind Jersey Boys and Wicked.
#20re: How BAD is Young Frankenstein realy doing?
Posted: 3/5/08 at 7:09pmI'd really like to see this show...sad to hear it's winding down.
-Jeff Bowen's worst onstage line flub.

Posted: 3/5/08 at 8:40pmYF may have been on TKTS for the past few weeks, but it's only been for the Wednesday matinee and one other evening performance (either Wednesday or Thursday).

frogs_fan85,
Usually the contracts are a year from opening night on Broadway.
When I tried (and won) lotto for this show it was the third attempt and it was at the time that the new years tourists were still around but dying down. I don't know if this is because the show itself isn't doing that well. Or if it's because it is still the slow season on Broadway.
I left the theatre not happy at all. It felt like I waisted a night out. There were some points that were funny. All the songs fell flat (sans putting on the ritz) and I just overall didn't enjoy it.

Won lottery for today's matinee... the McDonalds was not particularly crowded.
As for the show, not the worst thing I've ever seen, but it WAS pretty lousy. All the jokes fell flat (I felt bad sitting in the front row and barely cracking a smile) and the songs were all mediocre at best. "Translyvania Mania" is the only one that lingers in my memory, and even that one wasn't very good. For a musical comedy, crappy jokes and crappy songs aren't a very good combo.
