She gets hit by a train. I remember one high school production that i went to and I heard these girls talking about it - one thought she had been blown up because there was a big light suddenly - another had a FAR more realistic thought that it had turned sci-fi and there were really aliens

So, I saw this and thought the opera...wow.
It was a drug OD...although the train idea sounds fun too...
It was a mutant duck incident. I don't like talking about it; I'm still shaken.

What kind of drugs?
Carmen Diaz dies of a drug overdoes when she moves out to LA to be a "big time actress." She overdoes, and eventually dies during the song "In LA" which is towords the very end of Act2. Carmen sings about all her troubles that she faces in LA and talks about drugs, and its assumed she OD's on cocaine or heroine.
She doesnt get hit by a train, her heart doesnt stop of anything like that.
thank you and goodnight.

She suggested some revisions to Arthur Laurents.
Really? The production that I saw actually did have her getting hit by a train - maybe that was cause it was high school and they didn't want drugs in it......

I thought you meant in Curtains and I was going to say What!?
SPOILER ALERT
Well, no one was saying it...
Oh. Too late. Sorry, move on, people. Nothing more to see here. The bus is recuperating and seems to be doing fine. We're all very hopeful for its full recovery.

I have only seen the movie - this doesn't happen in the movie, does it?
She overdoses, but the script calls for the sound of a train to play after she finishes "In L.A"-I have no clue why, it never made any sense to me. Just one of the show's myriad of problems.
The musical and movie don't have much in common except that it is the same school and the song Fame appears in both. Other than that, they are pretty different.
FAME????
I was all set to write "Joe done it."
Every time I sit down, I exude clouds of dust.......

I think in the film, the closest character to Carmen is the girl who gets into porn...
