Les Mis: never
Hairspray will not close before the movie comes out.
The only way I'd see Tarzan leaving is if it seriously starts to flag once Mary Poppins is open. Disney could still boast three shows on Broadway. I know it's not the *WOW FOUR SHOWS!* thing, but three is more than enough corporate Mouse to go around. *shivers*
I agree that Hairspray isn't going anywhere before the movie comes out. We'll see if the movie helps it out at all...
I've heard other people theorize that The Producers will stay open until Young Frankenstein is ready for a house and then YF will step in to The Producers' place.
Shows that I believe will run for **quite** some time:
Wicked
Mamma Mia
Spamalot
Jersey Boys
Kay, the Thread-Jacking Jedi
Quando omni flunkus moritati (When all else fails, play dead...)

RENT has such low running costs that I honestly can't forsee it closing in 10 years. As long as 60% of the theater is filled, the show is still making money. Unless it slips to a couple weeks with 30% then I don't think it will have any trouble staying open.

How long until...
...you all stop playing this ridiculous game? :)
Finally - I have found a thread where Phantom gets some respect
I really hope Beauty & the Beast closes beofer it surpasses the orginal A Chorus Line. To know that a simple kids show has surpassed one of the best musicals of all time would be horrible.
I think Beauty is a wonderful show, not just for kids. I think the music is very strong and If I Can't Love Her is possibly the best male power ballad I've ever heard. Not as sung by Steve Blanchard, but when really peroformed well this song bring the house down. The sets, while old, are still very impressive looking, unlike Phantom's where the dust is visible from the mezz.
Beauty and the Beast can't close until I have played the Beast...
I think ACL has two years in it.
Producers- less than one year
Tarzan-long long time
BATB-5-10 years
Grey Gardens-1-1.5 years but no without great reviews
RENT-4 years....in my opinion tomorrow is too long to wait....
LK- long long time
Q- 3 years
Phantom-6 years
Mamma Mia- 10 years
Color Purple- 2 years
JB- 7 years
Hairspray- 2 years
Wicked- 8 years
Spelling Bee- 1 year
Wedding Singer- end of the year.
Les Mis- 4 years
Spamalot-4 years
Times/Changin'- less than one year
I really hope that Grey Gardens has a better run than many of you are predicting.
I'm gonna give ACL 3-4 years. I think it'll reach 1,000. The first year it'll be a hard to get ticket, the second year it'll still be going strong but won't sell out. The third year is when sales really drop. Either Labor Day 2009 or New Year's Day 2010.

I think people underestimate The Color Purple. It's pulling in the same amount - if not more - that Jersey Boys is, plus it has Oprah. I think it will for a while.
THE PRODUCERS will be gone by the end of January.
THE WEDDING SINGER will be gone by next year's Tony Awards.
BEAUTY & THE BEAST will close in late 2007/2008 so that THE LITTLE MERMAID can replace it...that is UNLESS the Nederlanders secure another theatre for Disney that suits Mermaid.
According to interviews...the scenic designer for THE LITTLE MERMAID designs for scale. That's why they chose Denver as their try-out town...it had a big enough performing arts center.
There's no way THE LITTLE MERMAID is going to fit into the Lunt-Fontanne. They wouldn't create large sets just to make cutbacks when they get to Broadway.
Aw, come on...no one seriously wants to tackle Phantom? Everything I've read here says "never".
As true as "never" seems, I'll give it another 5-8 years.
I'll tackle Phantom. A year and a half before the Weisslers run out of hasbeens to replace actors in Chicago. (2012 maybe?). Then maybe we'll have something in the Majestic that will live up to its reputation.

i think that poto should closes soon to let new shows in.
I think everyone's missing something with "Grey Gardens."
If Ebersole wins the Tony (and she will), it'll keep it open at least a few years.

i guess i give GREY GARDENS 1-2 years
but it really depends if the show even makes it to the Tony's- i sure hope it will, but it all depends on reviews and advertising.

Do you honestly believe that the very talented Ms. Ebersole is going to stay in the same show for a few years? After she's already played the same role since February?
Hmm... I think POTO may follow a CATS sort of move, but that's hard to say because it is doing rather good (as far as selling out the theatre). If I'm not mistaken, Howard McGillin hasn't renewed his contract. Then again, I'm going on what I hear.

Yeah, I think Phantom should just close on top, instead of waiting to fail. Then tour the show for a couple years, and maybe bring it back in 10 years with a "new" staging. It's run its course.
There's no way Grey Gardens will run for two years. I think it'll have the same sort of run as Sweeney did. I doubt they can find someone who is capable of tackling the role like Ebersole did and that would garner the same reviews.
Grey Gardens will probably pull a Light in the Piazza, with Ebersole staying in the role for as long as it runs after she wins the Tony.
Rent... well, it's up in the air. We all know what state the current production is in, but it gave itself a big help with the movie, and I guess they'll resort to extreme stunt casting afterwards.
I think Chicago will close quite soon. We have the stunt-ers, but every time they're gone, it's endangered. PoTO… well, it’ll take a while. How are the running costs for that?
Wicked will run until the earth implodes, and then it will still be running with single celled organisms as Elphaba and Galinda. You still can’t get tickets.

I'm sure they signed Ebersole for at least one year.
