Recently, I came across a website that brought to my attention this not-so-new concept of digital lotteries! It had been about 6 years or so since I had stood on a line to try and win tickets, and did not know of this magical digital lottery that had started about a year or more ago. I started working a job that did not allow time for the in-person lotteries. So learning of digital lottery was mind blowing to say the least! With that said, since September (when I learned of them and began entering), I've been lucky enough to win the following (in order):
LOTTERY WINS:
KINKY BOOTS (LEFT BOX - 2X!) - Matinee the first time, Evening the next time, and now I can't seem to win anymore as I'd like to take my wife - who missed it because she was in Florida.
BOOK OF MORMON (ORCH - Very close to the stage, but a slightly partial view, maybe I missed 10% of the set/show if that). I was told I was lucky to have won these, but at the time I didn't think much of it. This show wasn't on my radar and I had no idea how sold out/popular it was! My wife LOVED it.
ANASTASIA (never got the chance to buy this ticket, something came up, and now I have not won them since - 2 months later - sadly, but I suppose I deserve that).
WICKED! (ORCH!!!!) - This one shocked me. I could not believe it. I was thrilled. I had seen it already, but my wife had not and to be able to take her to see my ALL TIME FAVORITE musical and see it again myself after 7 years....that was marvelous, magical, magnificent and now I play my cast recording every time we are in the car. This is just an incredible show. I wish anyone shooting for its lottery MUCH luck!
CATS (ORCH LEFT!) - Thrilled to get to see this at a fraction of the cost, when I thought I never would after its original closing. Quickly became my wife's favorite show. Wonderful experience, and at this point...the two of us just couldn't believe how lucky we had been to see so many shows in a short period. A part of that is being very flexible!
PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (did not get to buy the tickets - was going to buy them for my mom and I and it turned out she unexpectedly fled NYC to Massachusettes and told me too late - this is a difficult lottery to enter I think - short window).
WAR PAINT (won 2X, finally purchased the tickets on the 2nd time REAR ORCH! The streak continues - I always make sure to click on the winning link and purchase the tix within the first 4-5 minutes of receiving notification - perhaps that is why?) - Worth seeing Patti LuPone, but not our best deal. The same tix were avail through TodayTix for $12.50+ each ticket. Still worth it!
Shows I'm dying to win, but have yet to: LION KING, HAMILTON (of course - I will try till I can't any more - just like everyone else haha), ANASTASIA
I'm curious. Have I been lucky? Are these typical lottery wins? What else has everyone been privileged to win? Please share your lucky winnings :)
I'm surprised this post didn't come with a referral link.

I'm new to posting, been reading the message boards for a couple of months now and find the info helpful. So, please, do tell what kind of link do you mean? I'm not sure what you're aiming at. Broadwaydirect.com is one such site where I enter the lotteries if that's what you mean.
There are always a few lotteries that are absurdly easy to win -- The Humans last year comes to mind. Phantom you can win if you enter every day for a couple of weeks. Cats took me a bit of time but I won that one too. Warpaint must be easy these days as well.
And then there's the others...
I've entered the DEH lotto an absurd amount of times -- I think I'm coming up on 100 times. Probably more than the Hamilton lottery, which I gave up on a couple years ago. At this point it's basically the only way to see the show without paying out the ass or waiting in line all day (or both) -- even rear mezz tickets are over $100 at this point on the cancellation line.
As a New Yorker, I miss in-person lotto's a lot. It narrowed down the pool of who could win (since you could only go to one lottery a day, they were basically all at the same time). Then agian, it's also nice to not have to run to the box office after work every day to maybe get a ticket to Hamilton.

Yes, DEH is another one that I attempt to win every day. Good to know I'm not just unlucky with that lol. I'm loving the digital lottery for the same reasons you mentioned. The convenience and discounts for those who love Broadways is a perfect combination...truly! Thanks for replying :)
I won the DEH lottery the first performance after the Tony's then I met Groff in the same night. I haven't won a lottery since so I have some pretty OKAY luck

TodayTix was selling rear orchestra same day tickets to War Paint for $12.50? Must have missed that one.

I won the Groundhog Day lottery three times in a week but could only go once (because I just entered for the whole week and happened to win the second time), won the war paint lottery twice just went once and won kinky boots but saw the notification late and had already purchased tickets.
I entered literally all of them but these are the one I won
MoJoy's "ALL TIME FAVORITE" musical is Wicked and he still got some poor woman to marry him.
That, in fact, is my very definition of luck!
(Sorry, MJ, I'm actually quite pleased for you, but you sort of set that one up.)

The only lottery I've ever actually managed to win is School of Rock, and I entered many others countless times. I eventually gave up on most lotteries, but I'll still enter Hamilton occasionally just on the off chance of a win.

MoJoy is a she (that's me - a lovely lesbian), and I'm not offended by your comment (which I assume you think since you felt the need to apologize in the end) because the jokes is on YOU! Wicked is amazing! The production, the sound, the costumes, the music, the lyrics, the TIMELESSNESS of it all. No shame in my game :)

Ahh, my mistake. I didn't write that very well. I meant the tickets on TodayTix were only $12.50 more than the lottery ticket price we paid. So it was only a savings of about $25, as opposed to all our other savings which ranged from the cost of a full price ticket and more, $89-$125 in savings!

I tried 5 lotteries on Saturday. Lost them all. So my answer to the thread title: Not Very,
Happy for MoJoy though.

Smidge, Don't give up! I don't think anyone should give up. It doesn't cost us a thing to enter! I did win in the first week and then evidently at least one show every week that followed! However, lately, I have entered several shows daily and NOTHING. Not to mention that I take care of my wife's entries and have entered her in just as many as I have entered. She has won 0. I'm not sure why I've been so lucky...which is what I was trying to figure out! I just started to assume this was everyone's experience! Thanks for sharing...but don't give up!

I KNEW you were going to turn out to be a lesbian married to a woman! But it totally killed the joke to add all the qualifications ("s/he" "her/him", etc.) necessary to make it unisex. I tried all sorts of combinations and couldn't make it work.
But it made me think about how marriage equality (I'm a gay man married to a man, BTW) has and will continue to change our language, including especially the rhythms that make jokes land.
And, yes, I was entirely kidding! Why shouldn't you and thousands of others like WICKED? I love the novel and the cast recording. I just didn't spend the money and make the long drive to see it in LA. Maybe when the non-Equity tour passes through my town...
Thanks for turning the joke back on me rather than being hurt. And congratulations to you and your wife on the great seats!

:) No harm, no foul.
Hooray for marriage equality! I love your theory that it will change the language...my hopes and dreams though is that it changes more than the language...that it changes the hearts of so many hateful people who can't understand love is love is love when between two consenting adults and having nothin to do with them personally.
Just a heads up...the novel is a FAR CRY from the show lol. In case you hadn't heard. I'm actually reading the novel for the second time since seeing the show a month ago (as is my wife - can you tell we truly are best friends that love every second we spend together - fights and all haha), and I'd forgotten just how raunchy, cynical and crass the novel really was. Though...also one of my all time favorite reads...up there with Middlesex and Anne of Green Gables series (vastly different haha).

I think marriage equality has already changed millions of hearts. Polls show a strong majority of Americans now favor gay rights. We've come a long way since I marched in NYC's first gay pride parade in the early 1970s.
I live in "gayopolis" (Palm Springs), famous for its LGBTQ population. (We haven't had a heterosexual mayor since I moved here!) But even here I notice a lot of people stumble over the words marriage and husband with regard to my husband and I. They DO treat us as a married couple, so I'm not complaining; but the language is still evolving.
