Posted: 7/3/14 at 6:34pmI would rather see the original choice, Carol Burnett, play the role.

I think Ms. Mueller would be perfect to play Fanny. She would definitely reinvent the role and not just do an imitation of Streisand's interpretation.

Posted: 7/3/14 at 10:32pmA Lea-less Funny Girl worked out real well the last time, didn't it? I predict that all you jealous nay-sayers will be dining on a side of crow in due time.

And Carol Burnett and Anne Bancroft.

Our ears can only hear Ms Streisands' voice when these songs are sung, even more so as we also have the visuals in our head [those of us over 50-with some exceptions].
If it is to be done, a well know theatrical name for Nikki and a nobody, and even without publicity, for Fanny.
Let the critics discover a 'new' Fanny[hopefully].
The advance might not be spectacular, but becomes a hot ticket [end flight of fancy].

Posted: 7/4/14 at 4:35amI'd love to see Jessie Mueller or Christina Bianco as Fanny, but I think Lea has the potential to exceed expectations with a great director. Ryan's only producing, so if we get a director who can help Lea transcend herself/Rachel Berry, she could give a fantastic performance.

Posted: 7/4/14 at 9:30amIf Cristin Melioti could sing the role, she would be perfect. (I didn't see her in Once, but even if I did, those songs are very very different) She has excellent timing - and so screwed up the producers plans on How I Met Your Mother because she was so good that the ending of the series was flat, disappointing and even disrespectful. She also doesn't have your "hollywood beauty" look. She is enough of an "unknown" without being totally unknown. Perhaps she has that "Fanny/Barbra" life story....

Posted: 7/4/14 at 9:32amFanny Brice was first a comedienne. The problem is that Lea Michele can't play comedy. She is too intense. So she's either going to have to play the comedy using Barbra's line readings or she will bomb.

Most shows including "Funny Girl" are rewritten and tailored in tryouts to the talent signed. The myth on the board seems to be that the show was created for/around Streisand. Many here chime in that the book was a mess, based on what is a generally accepted truth and all was just carried by B.S. though the show continued for some time with Mimi Hines. I have to question how many here even know the original book of this show that played almost 50 years ago and is almost never seen.
