Only 300 at 10:00AM? I should've gone.
Hope it was (or still is, if it's still going on) an awesome concert.

Posted: 11/30/07 at 1:47pmIt's over. There are already reports about it on ATC -- apparently it was only 30 minutes (THE COLOR PURPLE and the Disney shows didn't participate).

Posted: 11/30/07 at 1:48pmThirty minutes? That's it?
re: How crowded is the wait for the concert today?#9
Posted: 11/30/07 at 1:49pmThe posters at ATC seemed to like it though. B. Peters sand "There's No Biz Like Show Business" and A. Lansbury sang "We Need A Little Xmas."

Posted: 11/30/07 at 1:55pmIt WAS thirty minutes. A true publicity gimmick. However, I loved it so much.

Posted: 11/30/07 at 2:01pmI had a ball, but I was kind of pissed that Iw aited so long, especially when the people watching the line were saying it was going to last until 2PM. Bob Martin is HILARIOUS.

Posted: 11/30/07 at 2:21pmI arrived at 10 a.m. and I would say there were no where near 300 people - maybe 100 at the most. But shortly after that, a ton of folks showed up. Very exciting, but yes, short, concert. Well worth it!

Posted: 11/30/07 at 2:22pmListening to it on Sirius now. Man, I wish I had been there! It has me grinning from ear to ear. LOVE Bob Martin!

Yes, I think Bob Martin definitely stole the show and that's saying something when you have Bernadette Peters and Angela Landbury on the bill - though they were both amazing as well!.
Do you think Socrates really worried about the load-in?

Twas short but very sweet. And to see all the different performers in their show costumes was a sight indeed. SO great to have Bob Martin back in his 'apartment'.
BTW brilliant use of the setting (It was on the "Drowsy Chaperone" stage) and having the man in chair comment on the state of affairs and then have his refrigerator deliver so many great characters (Just like in Drowsy!)
It was a theater lovers wet dream.

Yeah, I got there around 10:20 and figured there couldn't be more than a couple hundred in front of me. The theater eventually filled up, but it took a little while -- remember, the Marquis Theater sits like 1600 people.
I sat front row, center mezz. There were still good orch seats scattered, I'm really not sure why, but yeah. I was very pleased with my seats -- no one blocking short little me, and there, the front row is pretty low.
The only frustrating part was, as mentioned, the people at the hotel were telling us it was going to be 2 hours. As soon as the curtain went down, everyone kinda just stared at each other and was like -- that's IT? Not that it wasn't well worth it, especially worth the price, I just wish I hadn't been told it was gonna be 2 hours. Oh well. So worth it to see Bernadette and Angela singing again, with the rest of Broadway. Bob Martin was hilarious. And the energy and excitement in the theater was of course immense.
At the end of We Need A Little Christmas (so great to hear Angela, even if she did miss a couple of cues, haha), a banner came down that said "Broadway's Back!" Such cheers.
The only two songs were No Business...started by Bernadette and We Need A Little Christmas started by Angela...then a couple solos happened...I think in Show Business it was Cheyenne, Laura Bell, and Jonathan Groff...and in We Need A Little was Stephanie J. Block, Kerry Butler and Lea Michele.
Since no one else mentioned on here, here's who was there (to the best of my memory, which adds a few holes):
Special guests: Bob Martin, Bernadette Peters, Angela Lansbury, Bob Saget
Jersey Boys: Michael Longoria, and the 3 under (understudy? I didn't recognize them) Jersey Boys
Hairspray: Shannon Durig and George Wendt (per dancing, thanks!)
Wicked: Stephanie J. Block and Annaleigh Ashford
Spelling Bee: Jared Gertner and Sara Inbar
Chicago: Michelle DeJean and another cast member whose name I can't remember (sorry!)
Spring Awakening: Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff
Young Frankenstein: Understudy for the monster
The Grinch: Understudy for the Grinch
Xanadu: Kerry Butler and Cheyenne Jackson
Legally Blonde: Laura Bell Bundy
Mamma Mia: Carolee Carmello
Drowsy Chaperone: Beth Leavel
Avenue Q: Howie Michael Smith (w/ Rod) and Jennifer Barnheart (w/ Lucy)
Grease: Max Crumm and Laura Osnes
Curtains: John Bolton
Les Miserables: Max Von Essen
Rent: Justin Johnson and Tamyra Gray
Phantom: Whoever the current Phantom is (not sure)
Spamalot: Missed the name, but one of the knights
Chorus Line: 2 dancers who I'm not sure of
Seafarer: 1 actor I'm not sure of
Anyone feel free to correct or plug in my holes
And I got a picture with Bernadette at the stage door
Again, just wish I wasn't told it was 2 hours, but otherwise, really fantastic concert! What a treat!

Hairspray: Shannon Durig and Paul Vogt(?) I thought it was him, but I swore that's not the name I heard.
George Wendt.
Chicago: Michelle DeJean and another cast member whose name I can't remember (sorry!)
Solange Sandy (I think)
Chorus Line: 2 dancers who I'm not sure of
Deidre Goodwin and Paul McGill
And I don't remember their names but shuler Hensley's understudy was there, as well as an understudy for the Grinch.

"Man in Chair then took a few moments to chat with the folks filling his apartment. He spoke with the Jersey Boys about their first show back with a new Frankie Valli (Michael Longoria) and with Rufus Sewell of Rock 'n' Roll about this season's plethora of plays. Martin was then interrupted by a knock at the door.
In walked Bob Saget, Drowsy's current Man in Chair, who said he'd heard music the other night, liked it and wondered if he could borrow the recording. "You can't just come over to someone's apartment and ask to borrow their Gypsy without specifying which one," Martin said. He finally ushered Saget out the door with a Linda Lavin bootleg, turned around and was interrupted by another knock ("David Hyde Pierce, David Hyde Pierce," fingers crossed)."
