Love Wesley Taylor and want to get 4 tix for Addams Family opening night on Broadway.
Although I see a potential opening date on Playbill, since the production stars Nathan Lane, who knows if that date will stick.
I don't see tix available for purchase anywhere yet.
Do I just have to wait for a public announcement...? And if I do buy tix for what is proposed to be opening night and it changes.... do I get to change my tix....
Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Posted: 5/27/09 at 10:19amIt's a longshot, but I'd say to try waiting until about a week before opening night, then check ticketmaster or telecharge every morning. Sometimes, tickets are released in the days leading up to the opening. However, getting four will be unlikely.

On the other hand....
Get to know one of the producers or someone in their offices. I don't have any contacts but I do know of folks who rarely miss an opening night or an opening night party and it's all because of schmoozing the folks in the producer's offices.

Really the best shot is to go online right when tickets go on sale and try or the week of keep on checking diligently!
Using this method I was able to go to the openings of Next to Normal, Hair, and 9 to 5 this season.
I'm hoping to get to this one too! Openings really are the best because of all of the energy etc. Good luck!

Nathan's not the most reliable star. So I could imagine opening night being delayed.
Of course other factors could delay the opening as well... but add in Nathan and who knows...
I am taking into account all factors before I decide if I want to risk spending a lot of my hard earned money for opening night tickets which may not end up being opening night tickets.
As much as I love Wesley, I am having second thoughts...

Posted: 5/29/09 at 11:40amIf it's like a lot of the shows, by the time they're released to the public you SHOULD know if it's for sure Opening Night. As others have said, if they ARE released, it's usually in the week to couple of days before. RARELY are they available the moment tickets go on sale.
LIVE THAT LESSON!!!!!!

Do "Nathan Lane Shows" get their opening nights postponed? In what way is he not reliable? Did he miss a lot of shows in Producers or Guys and Dolls or something? I always thought he was a "Trooper."

Hi Joe,
I'm not a Nathan Lane expert and don't know every issue he has had with every show he has been in.
Also, I am not trying to be hypercritical of Lane, just realistic. He sometimes has problems and I am weighing all risks into the equation (new musical... potential cast issues) as to whether the opening night date will stick.
Here are a few items:
From Playbill: "Nathan Lane, the much-lauded star of the West End production of The Producers, has had to pull out of a performance because of a bad back."
Also from Playbill: "Nathan Lane was injured during the Sept. 1 matinee of The Frogs at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre. Timothy Gulan played the rest of the show as Lane sought medical attention for gashes and bruises to his legs, suffered in Act I of the musical."
From EW: "A late summer-early fall 1995 shoot for Love! Valour! was derailed when Lane announced he was unavailable. Speculation was rife that the stage star didn't want to step directly from his drag role in Birdcage into yet another pair of high heels on screen. Lane won't reopen the subject; director Joe Mantello, who helmed the stage version and the movie, asserts it was 'just a scheduling thing.' Whatever the reasons, the abrupt defection of its sole marquee-level star made Love! Valour! look like a dead duck ? or at least a swan in Mayday mode."

I remember that. He fell through an opened trap door. (Shades of Idina!) He was injured in the fall. I can't believe the woose took off just because of that.

None of those examples indicate a pattern of delaying opening night.

Phyllis, I have no knowledge if Nathan Lane ever delayed the opening of a show.
As I said before, I am weighing various factors as to whether in my opinion the opening night date will stick. Just making my own analysis.

Posted: 5/29/09 at 12:45pmThe only time I know of Nathan having excessive absences was during The Producers' original run. As early as September (maybe earlier), he was out quite a few times because of the strenuousness of the show. In fact, it got to the point where you considered yourself lucky if you got both Nathan and Matthew at the same performance. And all this started around the same time that the show started offerering premium priced seats. I can't recall any instance of his absence actually delaying the opening of a show.

Well Opening Nights- especially of brand new shows- get delayed. But to say "because of Nathan Lane's involvement" implies that his presence has (and will) make it more likely there are problems. Your citing two stage injuries and his dropping out of a film doesn't really back that up.

First, the show doesn't even have a theater yet. You have a long time to go before the tickets go on sale. Secondly, the opening night date is announced in advance (and short of some sort of unforeseen issue will be the opening night date) so that they claim the date and do not have conflict with other shows opening at the time. If you want to go to Chicago to see the show, individual tickets go on sale today.
Lastly, Lane is a theater animal and is a trooper. His career spans nearly 30 years and he has been very dependable. His time out of the Producers was because of career-threatening throat problems. He also injured, knees, back and ankles but didn't miss shows because of those. He had to leave the Producers in London because of a herniated disk in his back. He missed 1.5 performances in the Frogs when he fell down the trap door. He CHOSE not to do the film LVC because he was doing Boys Next Door film and was being paid for that and needed the money at the time. As for all the other shows he has done (including stepping into a role a week before opening to help out Terrence McNally in Dedication) he has been very dependable. Guys and Dolls, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, etc.
To suggest that Lane's 'undependable' nature would delay the opening of a show that will be months and millions of dollars in the making is a bit foolish. Anyone who is that undependable would not be hired as a headliner as often as Lane has been.
Back to your tickets: be patient and wait for announcements for ticket sales. The show does not open on Broadway for nearly a year. You have plenty of time.

Clearly Nathan has his fans, and that's great.
He has had a very distinguished theatrical career, and I give him his props.
(I believe he also missed some performances of The Odd Couple as well... laryngitis?? Don't recall... and it doesn't really matter does it??)
For everyone on this thread who offered constructive advice, much thanks!!

What you said to me on the Nathan Lane thread was very mean.
I am not a liar, and I am not uninformed. I happen to think the Addams Family opening date is risky for numerous reasons. Just one happens to be the Nathan factor.
I know people who went to a show when Nathan called out. They paid big bucks and were very disappointed.
But that's beside the point.
I tried to explain to you my reasonings, rather than flip you off.
But you can't be civil to someone who disagrees with you. And with nothing left in your attack arsenal, you stooped to name calling and verbal abuse.
Pretty childish.
I just discovered this board but I am leaving it already. No more posts from me.
And yeah, it's because of you JoeKv99, whomever you are.
You won your victory, enjoy.
