How do you say reprise?

I have been having some debates recently about this about the proper way to pronounse "reprise". Is it re-preese or re-prise with a long i? I have heard both ways.

I and most people I know say "re-preese", but both are acceptable from a grammatical standpoint, or so I've been told.

I pronounce it ruh-preez, but I've been told that both are correct. re-prize just sounds like a very American way of pronouncing it.

Ri-preez is the noun form, as in to sing a reprise.

Ri-prize is the verb form, as in to reprise a role.

"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

I've heard Ray-preez,
Ru-preez,
Ru-prayze,
Ru-praize,

I used to say ri-praize, but now i say Ru-preez.

The rain we knew is a thing of the past -
deep-delving, dark, deliberate you would say
browsing on spire and bogland; but today
our sky-blue slates are steaming in the sun,
our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay
like racehorses. We contemplate at last
shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.

I say "re-prize" (of course, I'm from the South). But according to Merriam-Webster online (www.m-w.com)...

For the NOUN form:
Main Entry: re·prise
Pronunciation: ri-'prEz, 1 is also -'prIz
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Anglo-French, seizure, repossession, expense, from feminine past participle of reprendre to take back, from re- + prendre to take, from Latin prehendere
1 : a deduction or charge made yearly out of a manor or estate -- usually used in plural
2 : a recurrence, renewal, or resumption of an action
3 [French, from Middle French] a : a musical repetition: (1) : the repetition of the exposition preceding the development (2) : RECAPITULATION 3 b : a repeated performance : REPETITION

For the VERB form:
Main Entry: re·prise
Pronunciation: ri-'prIz, 3 is -'prEz
Function: transitive verb
Inflected Form(s): re·prised; re·pris·ing
Etymology: Middle English, from Middle French repris, past participle of reprendre
1 archaic : TAKE BACK; especially : to recover by force
2 archaic : COMPENSATE
3 a : to repeat the performance of b : to repeat the principal points or stages of : RECAPITULATE

so from what I gather (after a load of confusion), definition 3 of the verb form ("to repeat the performance of") is "re-preese" but the other two verb uses are "re-prize"

But I have to admit -- I've never heard anybody say "re-preese" before! But I guess you learn something new everyday...

I say "re-preez", but I used to say "re-prize." Every director I've ever had has said it differently. Those two, plus "rep-reez", "rep-rise", and "re-prees".
