Broadway's not going anywhere. Neither is the West End or Off-Broadway.
As a brilliant man, Michael John LaChiusa once mentioned, it's moreso the ART that is dying. Broaday has become a playground for suits and deep pockets and a breeding ground for commercial garbage.
Is there still art? Yes. Does it last? Rarely.
It is refreshing to see the beautiful Letts masterpiece, AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY, still playing to packed houses. Let's hope the trend continues!

I don't think we should confuse theatre with entertainment. While theatre is entertainment, some entertainment is not theatre. All that "magic" is NOT exactly theatre. But it is entertainment- one more reason why broadway today is lacking what makes it an art form. In some respects it has turned into the circus.

Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

Broadway has ALWAYS been the playground for suits and deep pockets. I find it amusing that people think Broadway has always been about art. While many plays and shows can be serious in subject matter, that has usually been the exception, not the rule. That's why I always laugh at the "Golden Age" is gone comments. How many shows were written and performed during the so-called golden age...I gurantee there were a lot more than are associated with that time. A few good show out hundreds does not a Golden Age make!

It will last as long as it continues to make money for investors. After that, who knows. Maybe the end is closer than we think?????
