It's just plain fun. I still honestly cannot believe that audiences have not embraced it.
And I'm still dumbfounded about its stunning lack of Tony nods.

I'm away from the city for the summer...Are they doing any/a lot of advertising?
get someone to rewrite the book.

It's the songs that are the problem, not the book.
Think about it this way: it lasted already twice as long as A Tale of Two Cities?? Never understood all the hype for this one since last fall...
I disagree, Phyllis. I love the score. It's so infectious.

They should definitely hire Patti. (Sorry, I love this picture and I couldn't resist)
i do agree the score is very good, much better than billy *cough*giveback9to5'stony*em
why arn't people going? ITS A GREAT SHOW!
I'm confused, Michael. Are you referring to BILLY's ridiculous set design Tony?
"why arn't people going? ITS A GREAT SHOW!"
I said the same thing about Tale, people said it about [tos], people said it about 13...there is always a fanbase for a flop.
Are they comp-ing tons yet?

^ Most definitely
It is IMO not a great show but it is a great night of fun. I am surprised that the tourists aren't flocking to this.
the book is atrocious, the score is very fun with a bunch of standouts.

A non-theatre-dork friend of mine is going to NYC this week, and back when she was choosing which Broadway show to see, she was very turned off by the 'movicals'. I think tourists are getting sick of movie-to-stage shows. What was the last one to succeed?
BTW, in case your wondering what show my friend picked...it was HAIR (by my recommendation).
um billy elliot?
No offense, but this movie just isn't even as popular TODAY or with TODAY'S crowd...
Even though it flopped at the box office, LEGALLY BLONDE was a huge draw for tourists. Some people couldn't even tell you Dolly Parton was in a movie called 9to5, they only know the tune.
Legally Blonde still flopped though.

But it managed to stay in the Palace for a year & a half.
Still flopped.
I hope it makes it till at least August 23rd, cause I'm seeing it Friday the 21st. lol, Selfish I know, Anywho. Although I can't see Reba in 9 to 5, I do wish she would return to broadway. I simply love her voice.

I'm aware that it flopped. It still filled the Palace for a year and half.

'um Billy Elliot'
Billy Elliot will most probably be a hit, but it hasn't recouped yet.
I REALLY want someone to explain to me the producer's logic behind putting on musicals out of all these old movies. I understand trying to exploit a franchise that is hot right now. If tomorrow they announced a Harry Potter musical, we might all scoff, but business wise it would make sense.
Instead, it seems that producers go to a Blockbuster, pick a random aisle and say "Oh, I remember loving this movie! If turned into a musical, it will still be a Broadway hit - even decades later, of course!"
This is dumb.

Quite frankly, the best thing we could do is buy full priced tickets to see the show and get everyone thats going to the city to do that as well. unfortunately, that will not happen. Most people just do not have the money to see a show that so many people are saying is horrible. Which I COMPLETELY disagree with!
I .. flat out said LB flopped? But I'm sure the producers of LB will eventually recoup on the road. Near total sell-out in Philly in the winter, and with the big Army/Navy football game festivities going on. I'm sure it's selling great across the nation still. And it did run 1.5 years, as opposed to 9to5 which people keep saying could close Labour day!
