Let's give the producers of this show a few ideas of how to give this show a boost.
I say:
Put Dolly in the show. She could play Roz easily.
Get Reba in there as Violet. Reba's more of a box office draw than Janney.
Any ideas?
Yes. Fire two women under contract just to replace them with bigger names. That sounds legal.

Especially when one of those women was nominated for a Tony. As much as I like Reba she cannot play Violet. For starters, having two women with Southern accents totally downplays Doralee's role.
Close the show. That would be the best way to save us from this awful mess of a show.

Well, actors CAN and ARE bought out all the time.
That said, Dolly is a charming but rangeless performer. She would make a terrible Roz.
Dolly just posted on Twitter that she's recorded "Change it" and it's available on iTunes as of today.

Her charm and likeability always shine through. We're supposed to dislike Roz. If Dolly played her we'd love her. And again...there's that whole Southern accent thing.
How come only acresses with accents were suggested? What's next Holly Hunter to replace SJB?
Why "save" it. Let it run its course...if it's good enought to run, so be it. I think the producers know better than we do where to spend their money.

The show really is a lot of fun so I am not sure why business isn't picking up.
I went in expecting something truly mediocre but came away really impressed.
When I saw it they were giving away postcards to be sent out to people to tell them about the show. We submitted several but no one we sent them to has received them. Hmmm.
They should do a Dolly's Ladies Night Out promotion.
Come see the show with a fellow working lady (co-worker) and attend a pre-show party and talkback with Dolly.
OR
Contest where people send in stories about their bosses and the things they'd like to do to them. Best story wins premium tickets and a meet and greet with the cast. Stories kept confidential of course.
OR
A Behind the Scenes: Workin' All The Time stage tour giving insider information into the running of the show including the great sets.
OR
BOGO for weeknight performances (post work) with a catered dinner (locals don't get in to see this show because it's considered a tourist show but I think many NYC professionals would enjoy it; have to give them a reason to come directly from work)
OR
A digital dart board in the lobby for which patrons can send pictures of their boss. The submitting patrons can get the date for that performance and go see the show and at intermission throw digital darts at their bosses pictures.
OR
Since TS is closed directly in front of the Marquis, have people outside getting passer-bys to learn the choreography for the main dance number and the best in the crowd gets to be in that number. Parents and friends will buy tickets.
Honey, this is not a show worth saving. Except I think it would be HILARIOUS to have this and FIRST WIVES CLUB playing at the same time...so perhaps it should stick around??
Why is Dolly's "Change It" $.30 more than the average song?

This thread is futile.
The Marquis has already been preliminarily booked for the spring (with the possibility of a limited winter tenant contingent on 9 TO 5's grosses,) so it's only a matter of time.
I would guess that the predictions of the show sticking around until Labor Day weekend will wind up being accurate.

NDR, I LOVE that last idea! Someone could make their "broadway debut" each performance!

Dolly's voice does NOT mesh with the cast recording backing.
I think (good) stunt casting is the only way to save it now. And I don't see that happening.
I love this show so much, I would hate to see it close. I think the only thing we can really do is spread the word to anyone going to NYC. It really would be an awful show to miss, so we have to spread it around!
Rumor is Minsky's for the Spring, at least according to a few other threads on here.
I thought Minsky's was going to London before Broadway.

this is sad. I really like 9 to 5. What are the reasons its not doing well to stick around? I think it would tour well because a lot of people would enjoy it because it's very humorous and catchy.
i totally don't understand this. it's a great show. great set, case and catchy score.
why isn't it doing well?
i REALLY enjoyed it. more than shrek anyway, what a waste of a night. GO 9 TO 5!

I saw 9 to 5 last Thursday and I felt the same way I did about "Shrek." Great cast, fun source material but for whatever reason, it's just not translating onto the stage that well. The crowd did go crazy over all the "big" movie moments, but I thought most of it was static, most of the songs not terribly memorable and the choreography was just...odd.
Great sets though...and Alison, Stephanie and Megan were all better than the show itself.

I LOVED 9 to 5. I don't get why people don't like it so much. It's really a fun show--and it deserves to run a LOT longer than just a few months.
