"Instead, it seems that producers go to a Blockbuster, pick a random aisle and say "Oh, I remember loving this movie! If turned into a musical, it will still be a Broadway hit - even decades later, of course!"
This is dumb."
Basically what I said ... The only way it works is if you pick an entirely classic movie with a great plot to it: Something like SUNSET BLVD. or if you call Grey Gardens based off the documentary...
Legally Blonde was/still is immensely popular film, where-as 9to5, you're lucky if people remember the Dolly Parton song of the same name unfortunately.
In any case, NOSTALGIA alone will not make your Broadway show a hit!
Paula Dean as Roz. HA! sorry.
Philly03 - uuuum lots of people know the song and the movie... It was nominated for an Oscar and hit #1 on not only the Country charts but also the Hot 100. It was the 2nd highest grossing film of 1980... People know it, lots of people...

Maybe if they started offering happy endings.
It was the 2nd highest grossing film of 1980
Hello?! That was almost 30 years ago! It's Broadway, not Musical Theatre CPR!
Hello people over the age of 30 see musical theatre
I must admit I loved this show. The cast is outstanding. They should do talkbacks with Dolly after the show. That would boost ticket sales and she is such a nice lady. I would pay to see it again if Dolly did a talkback hosted by her with the cast.
Here is what the need to do...Call ABC,NBC,CBS,FOX etc and start whoring themselves out there again. Push their way onto every daytime morning show and do whatever it takes to get on EVERY single late night show.

I REALLY want someone to explain to me the producer's logic behind putting on musicals out of all these old movies.
As musical material goes, I thought both 9 to 5 and First Wives had great potential. The execution for both has just been dreadful.
The producers can "save" it by taping it for MTV and creating an America's-Next-Top-Model-like reality show.
We can "save" it by seeing the show and buying all the crap they're selling.
Or, they could just go back to the drawing board and totally
re-conceive the show with a good score and book.
Then Dolly should star in it.
How about the Country Music Channel does a reality show called The Search for the Next Backwoods Barbie! But I would hate for them to get rid of Megan Hilty.

Why not cast former AI contestants?
Carrie Underwood for Doralee or Kat McPhee for Judy.
And get a TV commercial! I haven't seen a single ad for this show on TV.
The CMT idea is actually pretty good.
Maybe for the tour.
