Hey all,
I've noticed that most people here really care about other Broadway fans and try to help them out in any way possible, which is definitely something I would do if I lived in the city. I'm going on a spur of the moment trip to NYC on Sunday and I'm dying to see Spider-Man. Not only because of all the buzz surrounding it, but because the music I've hear from it has surprisingly been really good and I'm just overall curious to see it.
Here is my problem.
I'm paying for my boyfriend to go with me and we are seeing 2 shows. There are no discount seats available for the performance, and I just can't afford the $150 for two tickets when I have to pay for bus tickets and another show.
I was going to rush it, but I've heard you need to get there very early to get tickets. My problem is that my bus won't come in until 11:30AM, so more likely than not, I probably wouldn't be able to get rush tickets for it.
I was wondering if there is anyone who is as obsessed as Broadway as me that lives in the city and would help me out with this rush situation. I will (obviously) pay you for the tickets, as well as giving you some extra money for all the trouble of doing the rush and having to meet up with me and all.
I realize this probably won't happen, but I figure what was the harm in trying? :)
You could try Craig's list. There are line waiters available all over the place. (I know people do it for free tickets to the productions in the park every summer) however, I would suspect when all is said and done, you would end up spending the same amount of money.
When are you going that they aren't any discounts available?
BTW....the show is NOT worth seeing. I don't know what you read/heard that suggested that the music is anything worthwhile -- most of us here are in agreement that it is among some of the worst of the shows plentiful problems.
When I went on Ticketmaster and put the discount code, it said it wasn't available. I'm going on Sunday.

Keep in mind if the house seats aren't sold 24-48 hours before the show they usually get released at which point you may be able to apply the discount code to them
I'm thinking that people just wanna be able to SAY they saw it. Kinda like CARRIE. A certain cachet I suppose but not at that $$$!

The parallel with Carrie is not quite accurate. Thousands of people will have seen Spiderman during the preview period, both pre-official opening and after; relatively few people witnessed Carrie -- ergo, it has achieved a cult status that I doubt Spiderman will ever attain. IMO.

Ed, judging by the number of queens who've told me they saw Carrie, that show played to 3.2 million people.

Plus, we have more resources to preserve and distribute shows. Youtube and other sources weren't around when Carrie was playing. I used to know an actor that had the entire "Carrie" on audio.
Does anybody have tickets they have that they would like to sell?
I'm really starting to think I'm not going to be able to see it.

Tons of material is available regarding CARRIE to those who even TRY to look... from a full show DVD of the pre-Broadway run in England, to countless audios (ranging from demos, to workshops to Broadway production) and even footage from the rehearsals in London. Heck, there's even a DVD of the production mounted at Stagedoor Manor several years ago.
