I think Hugh Panaro is an incredible actor and because he keeps doing replacemnets he hasn't been nominated for a Tony. what's up with that, he deserves one. I saw him in both Phantom of the Opera and Sweeney Todd and thought that he is sorta overlooked.
Anyone agree or disagree?

Posted: 3/17/05 at 11:14amI thought he made a great Gaylord in 'Showboat' - beautiful voice. I didn't know he'd done 'Sweeney Todd'. He played Anthony, I presume? When/where?

Er.... and was once married to a friend of mine....
I never saw him in POTO or Side Show, but at Stars in the Alley -- damn the set of pipes on him!

He made a fine Anthony at the Kennedy Center Celebration's Sweeney production in 2002. What a fantastic cast that was too, between Hugh's Anthony, Brian Stokes Mitchell's Sweeney, Baranski's Lovett, Mark Price's Tobias, and of course the wonderful Celia Keenan Bolger as Johanna and Walter Charles as Judge Turpin!
Vocally, Hugh was more than up for the role. The sideburns were maybe a bit ridiculous, but that's hardly his decision.

Posted: 3/17/05 at 1:35pmNext to crawford he was the best Phantom (I have seen 4 differnt ones) and The Sweeney Todd cast was incredible. He needs to either star in a revival or do a new show cuz he needs a Tony.

I love Hugh! He was the first Phantom I've ever seen live (not counting Michael Crawford on the OBCR and Gerard Butler on the movie). And he was AMAZING! He had such a powerful, passionate voice and made me cry during the finale. And of course, he is pretty hot
