Two-time Tony nominee & Grammy nominee Jeremy Jordan steps into Bobby Darin's shoes beginning an open run of performances on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
Isa Briones (The Pitt) continues as Connie Francis with Tony winner Debbie Gravitte as Polly.
The biomusical currently stars Matthew Morrison as Darin through April 19. Tony winner Jonathan Groff played his final performance in the role on March 29.
Jordan earned a Tony nomination in 2012 as Jack Kelly in “Newsies The Musical.” Most recently, he originated Jay Gatsby in “The Great Gatsby” on Broadway in 2024, earned a 2025 Tony nomination for playing the title role in “Floyd Collins” and subsequently returned to “Gatsby,” . Jordan’s other Broadway credits include “West Side Story,” “Rock of Ages,” “Bonnie & Clyde,” “Waitress” and “American Son,” as well as “Little Shop of Horrors” off-Broadway. Just wanted to add, since the OP did not mention it, Carrie St. Louis begins performances as Sandra Dee the same day as Jeremy! Sadie Dickerson departs alongside Matthew Morrison this Sunday.

It's hard to believe in the age of generative AI that they can't make a better image than that, so that it looks like the graphic is actually on a curved, three-dimensional coffee mug. (Of course, they could also take a photo of the actual item, but maybe that's just crazy thinking on my part.)

Thinking of all the earlier comments questioning if the show should stay open without Groff. Floyd Collins is working some magic here and is going to do just fine.
Timbers has done a nice job staging these bows.

He looks like a little boy having fun and putting on a show. Hopefully he becomes more manly in it. And yes, that comment is just from the curtain call. Can't wait to see him.

I agree, but physically he is the most like Darin of the three who've played him.

I know it's only the first curtain call. His energy seems low and his choreography is barely there. After seeing Groff go full out at every opportunity this is a shift.

Jeremy is not a dancer. People are coming for his gorgeous voice and face, charm, and the ensemble cast which has always been excellent.

Yes. He is definitely not a dancer. And people are now coming in because prices have gone down and the show is discounted. I am excited about seeing him in the role. I have always been a fan. But the clip of the curtain call shows room for growth. And that is ok.

He has more energy and charisma than Morrison did for his first bow. At least this doesn't scream cringe.
All-in-all can't see this lasting past Labor Day without Groff. The material was so in his bones, anyone who fills the shoes after isn't going to match that. The show was conceived FOR him.

It didn't scream cringe. That is just you projecting s*it. And that comment saying "and that is ok" ?? Since when is "ok" good enough for broadway?

It seems to me that Jordan's success with cabaret shows and solo concerts is at least partly due to that "little boy putting on a show" quality in his performances. He's having a party and he's invited the audience to come along for the ride. It's a big part of his appeal and he knows it.
I completely disagree that the show cannot survive without Groff. I doubt that Groff or Timbers conceived the show as a vanity project for one star. As long as they continue to bring in established Broadway stars with their own loyal fan base, this show can continue for a long time. I expect Morrison to come back at some point, and Jordan could do the same. Most of the criticism of the show has been due to the book. People will continue to come to the show to see one of their favorites sing and dance for a couple of hours, not to mention the killer voices they've been bringing in as the female leads. It's a great showcase for a lot of Broadway talent.

I'm not sure I see a significant difference in the so-called "boyishness" between Groff and Jordan. It is part of the charm of both of them. YMMV.

And who is to say you should . Different strokes for different folk. There is a suave element I find missing . But it’s just from that curtain call clip. I can’t wait to see it for myself. I’m sure he is charming.
sad that these clips are so important. Remember, that’s what turned the tide against Beanie.

The teenage boy in the background with his mother while the girls sing Mack the Knife looked so bored, attempted a clap and looked 'What am I doing here'? If this is Broadway--no thanks. I love checking the audience to see how they are reacting. Most looked like--it's over-let's go.
That Mack goes on for far too long anyway.

ok I saw him last night and I have thoughts.
this show should've closed with Groff. It's painful to say but very evident when comparing my two different experiences with this show.
the real strong suit overall of the show was groff and the way that he beautifully embedded it with significance by connecting it to his love of performing. you could feel his need for performing behind every step he took. as someone who relates to that sentiment and has never cared about bobby darin, that raw emotion was what connected me to the show and made me enjoy that night. not to mention his just overall unmatched showmanship.
with jordan, this felt like one of the longest shows I've ever seen. his like crooner impression will likely be tightened up over time, but I didn't love it. and he danced much better than I thought he would, but it still felt like I was watching someone's dad attempt to dance. but most importantly, i didn't feel he conveyed the message with enough passion.
I now understand all of the mixed reviews about the book, because WHEW, any moment without a big number drags severely. everyone in the cast though is still phenomenal and I don't want them to be put out of work so I still hope this runs for a while because it still is a fun night which appeals to a wide audience, young and old.

Just got home and agree with most of this. Jeremy’s dancing is better than expected, but there’s something about Groff that makes you believe that he LIVED for the stage and the audience connection. Jordan lives for his family, not for the stage, so I don’t believe when he tries to sell that concept at the end. Maybe that’s me judging their personal lives, but the opening sets us up to do that. I thought Jeremy would be able to sell “crooner” better than he did, but I don’t think his voice, while probably the best voice on Broadway, is actually suited for this.
Isa is the best Connie the show has had, so she stole the night for me. She looks like her, sounds fantastic and gave great highs and lows to her acting. Carrie was another good Sandra. They’ve all been good. Pretty sure there was an understudy for Polly because there was still a slip in the playbill which I appreciated after seeing two shows that didn’t do the same when having understudies.
I do think the show will go on without Groff because it already is, but I don’t know for how long. We shall see.

Saw the show last night via a Standing Room ticket that I got 1 hour before curtain. JJ was fantastic! This was my 3rd time seeing it - loved it. Saw JJ in concert 2 weeks ago in Los Angeles. In regards to a previous post, last night I didn't see anyone with a look on their face of "let's go." And, if that's the case.......they are free to leave.
