Caught the first preview of this tonight and MAN New York Theater Workshop is on a role because this was phenominal. Hilarious, and tragic and the audience loved it, I wasnt a huge fan of George's last play but this one is a real winner.
I enjoyed it, but not as much as I was hoping to. I sometimes thought the text got too heavy-handed and took away from the message of the piece, which was clear enough without the characters spelling it out for us. The actors are great, but I thought it could have used further cutting and reworking. Being a fan of George’s, I was left a bit disappointed.
There are tickets on TDF, which is where I got my ticket for tonight ($35 including fees). But NYTW sent out a discount code this week -- FINALDAYS -- it gets you 30% off.
I saw this on Tuesday night and the house was only full. I imagine we'll be seeing several ticket offers of one kind or another over these final weeks of the run.
I thought the Time Out NY review of this was right on the money. Love love loved the first hour. Excellent. But the final 30 minutes didn't ramp up and deliver on the promise of what came before. I'm happy I saw it, but I left a little disappointed.
