re: Hysterical Thread From Across The Pond!

While the show is FAR from perfect its very funny to see people who havent seen the show commenting. Especially mentioning the set and performances which are the strongest aspects of the show

Exactly, that first poster should be put down, bless him!
Its only been on stage a few weeks so I'm damn sure not even a handful of them have seen it!

re: Hysterical Thread From Across The Pond!

Have to say there was a few household names on there, that I am very familiar with!!!!!

have to say i do agree with the set not being upto broadway set and its is true Broadway sets are much more lavish than ours.

Grrrrrrrr.
People do anger me sometimes.

On a side note, having heard Mirror Ball I am rather glad we got Spread the Love Around, whicj I think is a very strong finale and much better then a song which compares God to a Mirror Ball.

re: Hysterical Thread From Across The Pond!

I completely disagree on Broadway sets being superior to West End sets. It really all comes down to each particular show. All those sets Mama mentioned are great and i'll also add:

Imagine this (Not the best of shows, but by god it had a good set)
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Lord of the Rings (Ok so it was in Canada first but the set was just beautiful)

re: Hysterical Thread From Across The Pond!

The current sets would only fit into four Broadway theatres - the Gershwin, the Marquis, the Minskoff and the New Amsterdam. Three of these are taken so if anything, the sets will have to be reduced for New York.

I would love to see Blythe Danner as the Mother Superior though.

Mirror Ball was a trite filler song, replaced by the infinitely better Spread the Love Around.

New York can only dream of having a theatre like the London Palladium!
It never has and never will have a house like that AND yes I know all about the Palace! Been there, done it and had a drink in the bar!

re: Hysterical Thread From Across The Pond!

No all 4 of those broadway theatres are taken
New Amsterdam- Mary Poppins
Minskoff- Lion King
Marquis- 9 To 5
Gershwin- Wicked

re: Hysterical Thread From Across The Pond!

Do you seriously think it'll go to Broadway? If it failed on its first run in America and can't fill the Palladium, how will it make money over there?

re: Hysterical Thread From Across The Pond!

The difference between London and New York is that three of London's five megatheatres (Palladium, Drury Lane and Prince Edward) have a relatively fast turnaround of shows while in New York, two of the four megatheatres (Gershwin and Minskoff) will not see new shows for a decade or so.

Selling at weekends, mid week Ok.
It is among a lot of the big shows offering weekend and mid week deals etc for an all in price.
The only show that doest seem to need this at the moment is 'Priscilla' which is having a good old time at the box office at the moment.

re: Hysterical Thread From Across The Pond!

It'll be there for a year at least I think.

I was shocked to receive a £10 off best available email from Priscilla last weekend. True it was only for weekdays after Summer, but that can't be a good sign.

re: Hysterical Thread From Across The Pond!

I thought it was doing well atm, at least so Mama has implied! It's certainly not been discounting in the *other place* we won't mention for fear of getting yelled at, which is good for the show but bad for skinflints. I have seen it on and off with vague discounts since it opened on things like Theatremonkey and other sites. I guess it's a combination of summer, tourists and its feel-good nature that means it's doing particularly well at the moment.
