I think it just premiered on Starz this weekend... (after I basically ran my DVD into the ground !!)
Great thing about IO---
At least one Starz channel will be showing the movie just about every hour !!
And will watch it every time !!!!
I can even get past the Adam "On the Rocks" scene !
While we wait for the posts about how annoying this thread is, I would like to take a moment to agree with you. Sure the movie wasn't as great as it could have been (cutting "Goodbye Love"?) but I really do think it is a fabulous film and I love it too : )
Hated the show but enjoyed the movie. Go figure

It's true. You see the movie and you see the show and you love it, then the hype dies down and you think to yourself, "I wonder if I was affected by it all," and you go about your life, then you watch it months and months later and go, "You know what, I actually really love this movie/show."
I watched it last night. :)

Thats ok, Green-eyed..... I kind of expect some negative posts... Subject lines says it all... so, for the people that didnt like the movie (or the show, for that matter) its certainly okay to skip the thread !

This is going to be me all-time favorite thread on this board. I really loved the Rent movie! I am going to have to sue Starz for the amount of time that I am going to waste watching it. I've caught three times since it premiered (don't worry i didnt watch the whole thing every time). It is so well done and I really prefer it to the show. The fact that I can just pop on Starz and see the awesomely edited "Out Tonight" will make my day, any day.
I agree Mr. Roxy. Show did nothing for me; the film, oddly enough, I liked.
Wow, I expected A LOT more hate posts than this thread is getting!
I like the movie and the show!
I was with some friends last night, and when I went inside to get someone to drink I saw her brother surfing the channels and we ran across RENT, and I pretty much stayed inside for the rest of the night and watched it. I forgot how much I loved it too, and then I came home and watched the documentary on Jonathan Larson today!
woo-hoo for the rent movie.
I wish I had Starz.
But oh well, I have the DVD.
I, too, was expecting more thread-bashing, but I guess people have just kind of dropped that. (or not.)

Um, it amazes me that this thread was started, because I was JUST thinking how necassery it was for me to watch RENT again... maybe even tonight :P seriously, every time I take a break from it I think my obsession is subsiding, and then I watch it again and I'm like "this movie really, truly, IS all its cracked up to be... and more" <33
and, I just feel the need to say:
thank you jonathon larson :)
I hated both. But the movie made me appreciate the stage show.

haha, well at least it did that for you! :)
actually.. I have tried so hard to convince myself otherwise.. but I really do think I like the movie maybe even a tiny bit better than the show. Maybe its just the cast... because I really, honestly DO love rosario and tracie more than daphne and freddie, even though daphne and freddie were awesome. Ro and Tracie were just.. flawless. And then everyone else in the cast I absoltuely ADORE.. so yeah.. I think thats why.
yay for all the RENT love!
The movie was okay for me, the first time i watched i was like "that was really good" then it just got old.

I preferred the stage show, but I thought the movie was great. Rosario Dawson really stood out for me, and I thought she did a fantastic job!
:)
I like to think of the movie and the show as two seperate stories, if you will. I love them both equally and each has its flaws and strengths. It would be really hard for me to compare them- so I won't.
I know Adam and Idina got some of negative reviews of their acting abilities but, to me, they were the two strongest actors in the film.
^^ I totally agree. It is two different mediums, and two different stories.

I like the film overall, but I don't like the "performance piece-over the moon" section. It lasts way too long.
Good thing you people don't have STARZ "On Demand".
If you did, you could watch it over and over and over again. That service is free if you subscribe to STARZ and if your cable company has "On Demand". Comcast does and it's on two On Demand stations, one regular STARZ On Demand and one STARZ High Definition On Demand.

I thought Adam was very good in the movie... Liked Idina... didnt love her. The movie, as a whole... I can watch over and over !!!
I agree with jimnysf. I have never really enjoyed Over the Moon that much in the movie, but when I finally saw it live I couldn't get over how funny it was even though I'd heard it a million times. There are definitley parets of both the live show and the movie that I love for different reasons. And greeneyed_one, I agree, cutting Goodbye Love I thought was a horrible choice, as well as my other two favorites Halloween and Happy New Year (even though they basically speak through all of Happy New Year in the film).

I agree with what was said earlier -- the show bored me, and did nothing for me at all. The movie was great and gave me momentary chills.
I also think that nobody wants to post a thread-bashing post because everyone's already expecting them. Nobody wants to be the one that's pre-hated.

^ That's because you never got to see the show when it was actually in it's prime and tight and sharp.
The movie had nothing on the incredible magic that the show had in its early years.

My fave part of the movie: "I'll Cover You"---
Couples dancing in the street are too cute !! :))
Worst for me--- "Tango Maureen"- hated the dance scene !!
Way too cheesey !!!
