re: I DEMAND A NEW BROADWAY CAST RECORDING OF THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA!!!!

I don't think so at all. I mean, technically it was live when it was recorded, right??? re: I DEMAND A NEW BROADWAY CAST RECORDING OF THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA!!!!

It's not like they're being dubbed with someone else's voice.

but seriously, in some cases it just has to be done. sure, I'm not clear on why the notes have to be recorded I think he could do that live but it doesn't matter to me. in some cases like the "seal my fate tonight" line is usually pre recorded but some actors have chosen to sing it live. it just depends. people have also said in San Fransisco once the real actors were on stage the title song switched to live singing. I dunno... I've never honestly been bothered by it.

From what I've heard the contracts for Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman had the stipulation that there would be no other full-length english cast album besides the OLC. Supposedly it was done for Sarah because ALW wanted her to be known as the "definitive" Christine.. That's why the canadian recording is only highlights. Not sure to how true this is, though....

"there used to be a website that had a list of everything that was pre recorded. I dunno what happened to it..."

Here's a link to the Google cache of it phantomoftheopera.com. (Note lack of "the;" it's a fan site.)

Interesting that the page itself no longer exists.

There are sound clips that can be found on the Phantom message board...or at least there used to be. I found them right after I spend an obscene amount of money on a live cd of it, but it was Hugh so therefor worth it.

ALW contracted an alternate Christine shortly after Sarah Brightman was given the role. Because of the requirements which include a large amount of stage time as well as the vocal requirements.

It would not be fair to everyone who has done POTO professionally to choose a "dream cast" and cast yet another CD based on popularity, imo. As was mentioned, there might be a rider or two prohibiting this as well. I'd have to ask around.

Besides, it's easy enough to get a full recording of your favorites...not legal, but easy.

Although many people would love to have a new recording, it'll a really difficult to get one. And Pati's right...since there has been so many replacements in POTO over the years, it's hardly fair to pick a handful for a new recording.

As for soundclips on Hugh's website. I'm still working on that. Hugh told me that we need permission from album producers, etc. before I can post clips. And that's not going too far at the moment. We shall see...

For now, let's all just hope that Hugh's plans for a solo album run smoothly.

In regards towards Julie Hanson. I had the pleasure of seeing her in POTO about two to three weeks ago. I liked the show a lot better than the first time I saw it (6 years ago with-can you believe it?- Sandra Joseph and Hugh Panaro) I remember being extremely impressed with Panaro when I saw it the first time and thinking Sandra was pretty good, I liked her acting more than her singing. BUt Julie Hanson, ah, I loved her. She sang beautifully and truly acted the part, as many Christines have done she didn't play the part as a "deer in the head lights". The only complaint was that during her little duet with Raoul during "Masquerade" she was too quiet, she was fading out and in and I could barely hear her, but otherwise she was quite good and i was mightily impressed. If they ever do, and they won't but if ALW decides to think like Trump and say "What the hell, one more can't hurt" (In terms of Trump, I'm thinking of both "Apprentice" and his buildings in NY) I would like to have Julie Hanson and Hugh Panaro do it. NOw, I'm not tryign to start a new thread with "OMG, who's your Phantom Dream Cast" but those two are the only reason I;d go out and buy another POTO cd (I have two already)

The vocal demands of the show were the cause for the alternate Christine to be hired to play 2 of the 8 weekly shows. Claire Moore was hired to play 2 shows a week and Sarah Brightman played 6. Moore took over the role full time when Brightman left the show, and later Moore created the role of Ellen in the original London cast of MISS SAIGON.
