"I Love Fosca" - from Passion Sheet Music..

Is the sheet music for the I Love Fosca version of No One Has Loved me (cut during previews) from Passion available anywhere?

Anyone know where I can get it? It's a beautiful song, too bad it was cut. But I understand their reasons for cutting it.

The reason for cutting it was based on Giorgio's characterization, and also length reasons. I think Sondheim did not want it placed because he felt it changed the ending from his initial intent, despite the fact that everything is basically the same. Nonetheless, there is no available sheet music, but it is sung on the Passion UK c.d. with Ball and Friedman.
...What happened next, was stranger still, a woman breathless and afraid, appeared out of the night, completely dressed in white. She had a secret she would tell, of one who had mistreated her. Her face and frightened gaze, my mind cannot erase...But then she ran from view. She looked so much like you...

Too bad no sheet music is available.

I understand why it was cut. Sondheim wanted the audience to read between the lines more, he wanted the audience to see for themselves that he Giorgio loves Fosca. It's way to evident he loves Fosca by shouting "I love Fosca, I love Fosca!." Though it's a very beautiful song, it spelled things out too much. The audience had to realize themselves he was falling in love with Fosca.

I think also, it makes Giorgio weaker. He would try to restrain his love at the end to an extent, based on what we learn of him through the show.

Why did Sondheim allow it to be restored in the London production? Not that I am complaining, after hearing Michael Ball's very powerful rendition of the song.

The show in London was so strange. Dark and shrill. Really made me appreciate the original Broadway production.

Michael Ball's recording is on the London cast recording of PASSION avaiable on First Night.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

I am well aware of that. But I don't have money right now to buy it online.

I'm a poor teenager, lol.

I just really want to hear that song from the cast recording. I've heard the rest of the CR is NOT quite good. I do hope to buy it soon. Just can't right now.

I always thought it was cut because Jere Shea couldn't sing it.
I think it works beautifully, and is passionate, and I like that it comes out of his Georgio trying to convince the Doctor to let him see Fosca again.

What a throwback! Of course, I own the London recording now. This thread was almost 12 years ago, in the early stages of iTunes and Youtube and no streaming services, therefore it was very hard to listen to cast recordings without buying physical copies. The teenagers of today don't know how easy they have it, lol.

Fun fact: because of this thread, a veteran poster gave me contact information to a music director who had a copy of the sheet music and sold it to me for an affordable price.

The song was restored for London, Kennedy Center, Melbourne and Tokyo. I don’t think it’s too big a statement for Giorgio to declare his love. It would’ve been out of character for him to sing the big song to Fosca, but in the particular scene where the big song is sung he is explaining to the doctor why he wants to see Fosca that night. To me, Giorgio is holding nothing back from the doctor as he feels he has nothing to lose by coming clean. In the bedroom where he sings a mellow reprise to Fosca, his emotion is a lot more restrained, which makes sense in relation to Fosca.

By the way, I would like a copy of the sheet music too. I was hoping they would include it in the score when they released a revised version a few years ago. Can you put me in touch with the musical director in question? Many thanks!

Hello!

Is it possible you still have the contact info of the music director who sold you the sheet music or know of any other way to get it? Would love to have a copy myself for auditions lol

re: 'I Love Fosca' - from Passion Sheet Music..

Just found this thread while browsing through all kinds of forums and databases desperately looking for the sheet music of the "I love Fosca" version of "No one has ever loved me"...
If anyone is still active in this thread and has any information for me, it would be greatly appreciated. I saw that LJ posted something about a musical director who sold it to him for a reasonable price. So if that contact is still available, I'd love to get in touch with them as well.

Thanks in advance!
