Posted: 5/29/07 at 10:12amJust my thought, but with the war in Iraq going on, it might not do well. Look at Journey's End. A few people I talked to who have not seen Journey, said they weren't in the mood for a play about war.

With a show like Miss Saigon you know the audience is showing up for one thing and one thing only-- so you have to ask: IS the Original Helicopter available? Is there a Helicopter today who could play this pivotal role?
Personally I'd love to see Kristen Chenowith take on the part of The Helicopter.

HA!
I would love miss saigon again too...but with le miz coming back i feel like it would be one big competition...
maybe miss saigon could movie into the le miz theatre, miss saigon could work very well in a smaller more intimate theatre too i think....
sometimes it gets too big...

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!
Why should we bring back a show that just closed (relatively recently)? We could use more original, new shows!!!! I'd hate to see something that really was good the first time around come back in a mediocre, lackluster revival (or restaging!).
Besides, as I said before, there are so many new, original shows out there that could have the space Miss Saigon's restaging would take.

Posted: 5/29/07 at 10:50amWe brought Les Mis Back after it had only been gone for five minutes. Miss Saigon has been gone for at least 7 minutes.

Yes, keep those theaters open for new original shows, like Xanadu, The Addams Family and Shrek.
I hope Miss Saigon gets a revival someday, but now is not the time. This is a show that could work wonderfullyif it was reconceived and perhaps tweaked a little bit.
On the other hand, if they can persuade Harvey Fierstein to play the helicopter I'll buy the first ticket!

I hope not. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved the show (saw it at least a dozen times), but reviving a show too soon puts pressure on the producers to make create a production that closely resembles the original. It closed too recently and, perhaps more critically, ran for 10 years the first time around. I'd say give it AT LEAST another 10 years, maybe longer, then bring in back in a totally reinvented form appropriate to the time when it is revived.
To me even the revival of Chorus Line, which was gone for 17 years, felt a little premature to me, because it ran for so long before it closed. Plus what they brought back was exactly what they had before. Please, if you're going to revive something, do something creative with it.
Don't even get me started on Les Miz, my all-time favorite show, which had no business coming back in its scaled down production after only 3 years.
Given the strong season we just had, let's keep the theatres open for those, or at least for truly reinvented revivals of shows (aka Company).

Posted: 5/29/07 at 12:54pmIts funny, but I was listening to Miss Saigon over the weekend, thinking, "I wouldn't mind seeing this show again." In ten years or so, I think it would be great.

I don't know if it's ready to come back to broadway just yet. However, I would love to see Cameron Macintosh's recent European tour, which closed a while ago, come and tour in the US.
This production was scaled down a bit from the original London and Broadway versions, and included new staging as well as different sets. I believe they used a projection for the helicopter.

Posted: 5/29/07 at 2:01pmI'm actually in a production of Miss Saigon at the infamous Company Theatre. I'm in the ensemble.

Posted: 5/29/07 at 2:57pmI love Miss Saigon, but i dont think it needs to come back for about another 7-10 years, and if it does, please dont do it like Les Mis, but do a totally new production of it (sets and costumes) event hough i had no issues with the original design, its always interesting to see a new take on something.

Posted: 5/29/07 at 3:11pmI would like to see Miss Saigon again but not so soon. Also, if it did re-open on Broadway, I would like to see it with a new creative team. That way, it will be fresh and not a copy of the original.

Posted: 5/29/07 at 3:21pmNot only was the show sort of lousy, but we don't even need it back. It only closed a few years ago.

Posted: 5/29/07 at 3:34pmA PROJECTION of a helicopter! Horrors! Is nothing sacred? You might as well use a projection of Mama Rose!!

Posted: 5/29/07 at 4:01pmI'd much rather see a revival of Dreamgirls than Miss Saigon, even though I didn't get to see it in its original production or the recent Non-Equity tour. It closed in 2001, I think "Dreamland" needs to let the sheets cool down a little more before they think about reviving it.

Posted: 5/29/07 at 4:02pmThe University at Texas had Miss Saigon several years ago, and used a projected hellicopter. It worked really well. It was VERY loud, absolutely huge and there was a wind machine that blew air all the way into the orchestra. Believe me, I was pissed when I heard they were not going to be using a hellicopter (it was a TOUR, not students), but once I saw it I thought it quite brilliant.

I would love it, but I feel that no one could live up to Lea. ever.
And Chichi, thank you for the laugh.

Posted: 5/29/07 at 9:57pmI think it's a good show with some great parts to it (if sometimes a little sloppy with the plotline). I find it underrated with some beautiful songs. I don't think a revival is needed though.
