I am making a prediction about Brooklyn...

This is what I think is going to happen.

It's going to be a pretty good show, some great songs, and a great cast.

Those lovely 12 year old teenybopper girls will jump on the bandwagon and turn it into another Wicked, Hairspray, and Rent, and will evnetually be ruled by pre teen girls.

For some reason, I definetly see this happening. Coz you know that lovely pre teen crowd sure can turn a show into a very overrated production.

Anybody else think this is going to happen also?

I don't see how "teeny boppers" can reuin a show...if its a good enough production it will be able to stand alone. Who cares what kind of fans it has...as long as its a good show and entertaining, why should it be bashed for its fans when they have nothing to do with the show, but just giving an audience to it. haha maybe im just getting ahead of myself...but this has to do with wicked too.

The only way teeny-boppers can ruin a show is if they put annoying posts on message boards that say "OMG!!! Brooklyn's like, the best play ever!"

Yeah, I'm not saying that won't happen. I'm just saying they're not going to ruin the actual show.

I agree- I was mostly disappointed in Wicked until I discovered the lengths of teeny-bopper fangirlism it inspired. The more I heard about "OMG! IDINA BLEW HER NOSE!" the more resentful I became, until just the mention of the show made me sour. Now I still don't like the show, but either the big-time hubbub has died down or I'm used to it, because it doesn't inspire fury in me anymore.

As for BKLYN, I have high hopes for it. That first song also makes me suspect it might turn out to be Wicked-ish, however, at least in style. In which case I would be sorely disappointed again. We'll see.

I saw her today getting mobbed at the stage door by a horde of teenage girls before the show. It was really sad...and then another scary idea occurred to me...imagine if all the people waiting for the lottery had noticed she was there? Poor Idina.

I think any show is lucky to find itself any fanbase. It's a shame the Wicked crowd is getting a bad rap as obnoxious teenage girls.

I have to agree with Chinkie Azn Jai here.

So a show becomes a hit and attracts more enthusiastic fans than others. It's not the end of the world nor is it a reason to dislike the show soley based on that fact. I think it's sad when people shut down to something because it is suddenly main stream. A show is good or bad for reasons that have nothing to do with the fanbase. Unless of course that fanbase disturbs the performance, then it's another story.

If BKLYN becomes an enormous smash I would hope that people give it a chance anyway, regaurdless of who it attracts... just my humble oppinion.

Yeah that's true. The Menzelites (yeah, that's the New York Times term) not only make Wicked an annoying show, but they also give a bad name to Broadway fans my age.

Do any of you have the NY Times article where that is cited from? I'd be interested in reading it...if not, what was it about?

i can see your point... but i guess you just have to separate yourself from it... everyone on this board has to. they shouldn't rely on a show's popularity to judge how they feel about it. maybe i'm just being completely oblivious (which is usually the case :P), but i never thought of hairspray in that "teeny bopper group" you put it in. yeah, i know its got a huge following of young teenagers who worship everything about it, but i just ignored it and appreciate the show for what it is. yeah, along the line ive gotten obsessive over shows after i see them, but i think we all go through that phase and we deal with it differently. am i making any sense? probably not. but i guess what i'm trying to say is that we should look at a show as it is and not be influenced by others.
