Aw Snafu, you complaining again? Since there were only a few minutes between when I posted and your bff's around here....that isn't really a thing. Sorry dear.
Jackie Hoffman is just a really bold actor. Some people love her, some people hate her. Sometimes her comedy works better than other times. I have seen her be hilarious, but sometimes she can be really lame. Looking forward to seeing On The Town!! Jarethan, don't feel bad for posting this. Some people on here will slam you no matter what you do; don't worry about them!!
And there you go again Sutton, bringing a thread you bitched about to the top of the line.
Just to annoy you darling, I will continue to comment. The few times I have seen Ms Hoffman, I have found her extremely funny. I agree her brand of comedy is probably not suited for every role she does but on one hand she reminds me of a present day Imogene Coca.
I think she is another Joan Rivers.
She is that bit of sass and crass and full of humor.
Some like her some don't. It is what it is. But obviously she is more talented then others cause you know what -- she is making more money and in more shows then most of us.
I quite enjoyed Jackie Hoffman, and my uncle particularly did. Loved her little Billie Holiday imitation.
PJ, speaking of Conga from Wonderful Town, I noticed they sneaked a bit of it into the On the Town during a scene change. I chuckled to myself.

Jarethan: You asked a legitimate question, even as certain people are taking you to task for it. Yes, she is funny. I saw her in "Xanadu" (was onstage). She commented on my BWW name badge I had on. I don't think that Jarethan changed the subject line, someone else did. She is an acquired taste to some. In comparison, I like Seth Rudetsky. He's funny and intelligent. Some people have commented that they find him irritating. To each his own.

When she has the right material, she is very good. She was very funny in Hairspray and Xanadu.
But when she is saddled with a bad show (The Addams Family) or a misguided one like this On the Town, she overcompensates by pushing too hard. It seems to have worked for her, though, since in both of these shows, she seems to have won over the audence.

Thanks...I actually did change the title...thought it would ripple through, but it did not
Top of the page BABY.
"Just to annoy you darling, I will continue to comment"
Oh, sweetheart, someone like you could never annoy me due to how deeply dense you are (see: Why do you people leave? thread). It's highly amusing and always, always good for a laugh though.
You keep doin' you darlin!
Get off your high horse even though I agree with you!
On the Town was probably the performance of hers I have enjoyed the most. Her big, over the top comedy style suits Madame Dilly, and she's hilarious.
I personally really enjoy Jackie and have enjoyed her in the several shows I've seen her in including On the Town. The role Jackie plays in On the Town is not that far removed from her roles in Hairspray in that she is playing several different characters in the span of the show. I suppose like anything, she could be an acquired taste, but I think she works very well in On the Town.
Such a brilliant one you are Sutton. It is no wonder why the term Troll has been applied to you over and over. You complain about a thread yet keep posting in it. That is really, really quite bright!
As far as that thread goes, all it shows is I did not read the entire thread before commenting. It takes an idiot to find that so amusing over and over. So how amusing do you find it each time you read it? Share with us sweetheart!
@PalJoey- I would tell you to blow it out your ass- but there is a stick up it that is preventing anything from coming out so.... But maybe a powerful enough blow could dislodge it. LOL. Sorry, could not resist.
Darreyl, Have you seen the show yet? I was just wondering when I should expect to see clips of it on your youtube channel. preferably with the original cast. Don't wait too long dear.

Darrey needs an anatomy lesson stat.
Guys...perspective please. Let's just agree that we can't always agree. Sophomoric name calling is unnecessary.
FANatic, you joined in 2006 - you should know how things work here!

I also can't stand her in anything she does. You are not alone in your opinion.
Jackie Hoffman's performance brought me back to the days when I'd laugh my head off watching Carol Burnett. She was wonderful!

Yes, she is a sort of a Carol Burnett type, full of out-there humor that I personally like. I love her live Chanukah shows. I first saw her in Jennifer Westfeldt's film KISSING JESSICA STEIN, where she was much more subdued. I'd suggest that as an intro to Ms. Hoffman's talents for the trepidacious.
Here's another vote in agreement with the OP's assessment of Jackie Hoffman. We were among those absolutely in love with the Revival nearly from beginning to end, BUT for the beats where Ms. Hoffman was dominant. Could be the written shtick just hadn't aged well no matter who was playing those roles (although I remember laughing my head off at Mary Testa's performance in the '98 revival). Could be that we were too close to the stage (2nd row center) so the scale of her gags seemed too big. Could be her tone has shifted form the extremes of the preview period when we saw it.
Glad others love her to bits. For the one moment when she uncorked her Bille Holiday/ Audra MacDonald take-off, we did too.
