I went to this great event at Poe Middle School this morning and FINALLY, FINALLY got to meet my #1 idol, Ms. Audra McDonald!!!
Mia, that's great, I know how much she means to you!
I think I speak for all of her fans when I say...
ummm, details please!!!
mia, Im so happy for you! Thats so exciting!!!
Well, this school in VA has this program called ArtSpeaks! Its a great program that gets theatre professionals to come and speak to these kids to get them interested in the performing arts. She talked a little about her career, answered questions, and then performed "Stars & the Moon," "Bill," and "When Did I Fall in Love." Then afterwards she signed autographs and whatnot. So I asked her a question,(someone took my first question so I had to come up with something quick)"Who are her fav classic musical theatre composers?" Then I got her autograph and took a pic with her. She is soooooooooooooooooooooo NICE! She was a absolute sweetheart and did not disappoint. Oh by the way, She commented that while she doesnt read boards like these, she does find out the comments, like the complaints about her and other performers missing shows(Donna Murphy). She was saying that they don't want to miss performances, but do so to make sure they can be completely well again and not damage their instruments. She gave some great advice and anecdotes. All in all, a wonderful afternoon. I can now scratch something off my "Things to Do Before I Die" List.
Sounds like you had an amazing time! My best friend (the one in my icon picture) understudied for Sarah in Ragtime during the National tour and in Chicago. Though she never met Audra, she was a big inspiration for her at that time and probably one of the first more "modern" theater diva I ever felt connected to.
Yay -- CONGRATS!! =) That's so exciting; she's one incredible woman.
=)
I;m so excited for you mia!
U GO GIRL!
i know this has been a dream for you for a long time.
so glad to hear it's finally come true for you!!
Wow, she sounds like ther perfect Broadway star... Congrats
YAY! That's wonderful!
I'm so envious! Congratulations!
Marquise, I love the icon. When Alex and I saw her, she seemed like a really sweet person...that was just from the stage too...right Alex?

Yes Vinny...she was amazing. But I know if I got to meet her I would cry like a fool...pretty much a breakdown, so maybe it's best I wait until I learn to control myself.

I'm very happy for you, Mia. You really deserved it.
Thanks everyone! Frankly, I'm amazed that I was able to control myself and articulate actual sentences. I guess the shock of actually being right there in front of her, talkin to her. When I get it loaded, I'll have the pic in fan photos. Prob tomorrow.

Right now I envy you.
I saw her in the play revival of "A Raisin In The Sun" on a school trip. I wanted to go by the stage door and wait to meet Audra, but the rest of the students thought the show was crap and wanted to go home, so we did.
hearing AUDRA sing in person IS an amazing and unforgettable experience!
cturtle, your icon gave me a huge smile.
i'm glad you like it. if it made one person smile, then it was worth all the trouble getting her into that skirt and making her pose until we got the lighting just right ...
Glad you were able to meet her. She is an absolute gem to everyone, so humble and grounded (not to mention talent). My friend played for her today, so I am interested in how the whole event went.
