After tonight's horrific display of "Broadway" shows, I am done. Jersey Boys!?!?! WHAT!?!?!? it's a ****ing concert on stage!
Oprah bought LaChanzes win, she is pumping millions of dollars into the theatre and they way they repay her is by giving her lead actress the un-rightful win.
p.s. the Wedding Siger made me physically ill.
What has Broadway come to?!

There's a big difference between being too picky and not liking bad theatre.

I can't even begin to explain how wrong you are.
So I won't bother.
The show that rightfully deserved to win...won.

Posted: 6/11/06 at 11:15pmDon't give up on Broadway just because of an awards show. Go and support the shows that you like and forget about the politics.

Am I allowed to have an opinion? Isn't that what these boards are for? or am I mistaken?

I agree with you on Jersey Boys... concerts with dialouge should never have been allowed to win..

Posted: 6/11/06 at 11:29pmLittle over dramatic? LaChanze is brillant. You can't deny she has talent. Whether or not you thought Patti should have won, she didn't. I don't think it would have mattered one bit if Oprah was there or not. Some of us happen to like some of the musicals that were there tonight. The Golden Age is over, it's been over, it's time to stop fighting and just join us in contemporary theater.

Posted: 6/12/06 at 12:40amI couldn’t have been more displeased with the direction Broadway is going in. With a season of shows that included Lennon, Jersey Boys, Ring of Fire, and Hot Feet one has to wonder where in the world the idea of an original score has gone. Also shows like The Color Purple, The Wedding Singer, and Tarzan do not help the situation. Can someone please come up with something original. I am happy to say that I was able to see all four nominated shows this year and while I think they were all nice in their own respect the only one that truly deserves the honor of winning a Tony for best musical would be Drowsy Chaperone. It was cleaver and fresh and made me realize why I love musical theatre so very much. Tonight when Jersey Boys won I felt like it was a slap in the face to any originality left on Broadway. Every year I think Broadway is being broken down to make way for those who are looking to advance commercially as oppose to artistically. I realize that it’s important to consider ticket sales but honestly WTF. We can give you the Tony for best book and best score but in the end we have to give the tony for best musical to these guys to ensure that their show will run longer and bring more money. Anyway I am done ranting this is all my opinion so take it or leave it.

Posted: 6/12/06 at 12:49amrentboy if the golden age is done and you should get used to contemporary theatre why the hell did a a living replica of a golden age show beat a contemporary genius amazing piece of theatre that better in every way for a revival tony? I wil lalways love theatre but i must say i came close to giving up tongiht, Lacahzne does have talent but did get her tnoy bought that whole thign at the end with her thanking oprah made her a rich tony winner.

I'm not too happy either.
Yes, LaChanze has talent, but I do think she won because she's black, the role was monumental Celie (one that Whoopi lost for), and Oprah was producing.
First off, I don't think that role wasn't written nearly as well as it could have been. But that's what I feel about the whole show. The story was cheapened to me, and so was the character of Celie in favor for showy-er characters like Sophia and Shug.
Patti did the near impossible and shattered (somewhat) visions of Angela's brilliant Lovette.
Not happy..
