What did you think of Hunter Foster’s “Give the Tonys Back to Broadway” group, which seemed to suggest that Hollywood stars get too much attention. Did you agree with him?
To be perfectly honest with you, I had no idea any of that had happened. I know nothing of it.
It was a Facebook group saying that non-celebrity actors should be the focus of the Tonys.
Here’s what I’ve always loved about Broadway: that it accepts and prizes people who want to be actors in the theater. There are actors who live primarily on film and television, and other actors who live primarily in the theater. I don’t think that Broadway can be any less welcoming of actors as long as those people are willing to do the kind of work that theater actors do. Eight performances a week of anything is hard work. And it should be recognized as such.
No matter who’s doing it.
No matter who’s doing it. We’re all in the same community; it’s just a matter of recognizing that when it comes to the theater, it has to be about the work and never, ever, about anything else. For an actor, it’s the hardest job there is.

She seems like quite a nice woman.

I know there is a lot of hate about her on here at times, but I thought she gave a very strong performance in Memphis.
She was definitely the best part of the show.

There is a special place in Hell reserved for people who hate on Montego Glover.
Hands down one of the kindest, sweetest, most talented performers working on Broadway.

A very nice interview. I loved her in Memphis. I don't understand the criticism she has received here.
I do respect her, and think she is awesome in Memphis, but at the stage door, she was very snobby, and could have just been in a bad mood, idk. But she's a great performer and I respect that.
Kristin Chenoweth had similar comments regarding Hunter's campaign. Thank goodness for actors like them who have smarts and don't get caught up in their own little world.
Good for her. Well spoken.
While I don't think Montego Glover is anywhere close to being the best actress, I do think she is an incredibly classy and professional woman. I do have a lot of respect for her, even though I don't like her that much as a performer.

I saw her taking about 10 or 15 pix with the same annoying fan. She couldn't have been nicer all the times I spoke to her, and she came out during the cold winter days in between performances to sign and take pix.
I told her that seeing her in Memphis is a joy and she was so nice and sincere when she thanked me. I was also the only person waiting for her, so she spent a few minutes talking to me. She is lovely, thanks for posting this interview...I missed it.

Just because she's got class, doesn't mean she can act her way out of a paper bag.
BUT -- she's certainly got class.

Whether someone can act is always gonna be a subjective call, but for the record, Montego Glover got a raft of rave reviews for 'Memphis'; John Simon, for one, calls her 'a thrilling singer and commanding actress.' She tied with Catherine Zeta-Jones for Outstanding Actress in a Musical at BOTH the Outer Critics Circle Awards and the Drama Desk Awards. And Montego was nominated for her performance by the Drama League and the Tony Awards. All in all, quite an achievement for anyone, but even more impressive for someone originating her first female lead role on Broadway.

Thanks for the information Wayman. None of us knew any of that.
I thought she came off well in this interview, too.

See, I saw that, and then I saw this:

And thought she sounded very arrogant. Maybe I misinterpreted it, though.

I believe you may have misinterpreted it. She wasn't arrogant in the Cue & A...she just didn't have anything interesting to say. The good questions were answered with a "none," "too many to name," "whatever is appropriate," and "I honestly haven't detested any job I've had." So not what makes for a good interview lol.
How did she come off as arrogant? If you were referring to the questions she didn't really answer, I don't see how she's being arrogant. For example, the audition song question - "whatever is appropriate." Well, isn't that usually a good idea...?
