Wait, why not the Music Box?
I'm assuming they'll modify the show for Broadway in terms of size, concerning the number of cast members, staging, scene design, etc...
I remember people making the same remarks about the Spelling Bee transfer... and Circle in the Square has been a FANTASTIC space for that show, even though it's obviously larger than Second Stage.
The Farnsworth Invention is going into the Music Box, previews in October and opening in November.
I think the Richard Rodgers will be a fine space for the show. I love seeing shows there. Because of the huge rake of the orchestra seats, I think the height of the set's city buildings will benefit.
I'm thrilled it's official!
Even though "In the Heights" feels like a small show, in actuality, it won't be on Broadway.
It had over a cast of 20 off-Broadway, so with extra swings, etc it will have a cast close to 25.
Also, the set is really wide, and they needed a big stage for the choreography as well-- therefore, little theaters that are primarily used for plays weren't going to do the trick.
I think the Richard Rogers is a perfect fit (1300 something seats).. not huge like 1400+, but not small like 900-1100 seats.
It also needs to make money, and they'd have NO shot if they took a little theater.

Is In The Heights a two-act musical? Also, does it all take place on the "stoop" or infront of the buildings?
i have a bad feeling about this one grr

I think the time frame for them to open is perfect in this situation. Apparently, the team wants to work on fixing things up. Its good that they already got a cast to do it (at least that is what I heard).
This news made my day!! Yay! So excited for this.
I'm not sure why so many people think this is a "small musical". The physical production of this show was actually quite expansive and almost Broadway ready. Even at 37 Arts, it's a remarkable set design that will translate really well.
I got back from lunch today and saw the press release in my inbox, and I was so happy to see there will be a hot Spring come next year!
The people calling it a "small musical" clearly never saw the show. That said, I'm glad that the general consensus in this thread is one of positivity and excitement. This show will really spice up Broadway.
