Could it be:
the next tenant at the Nederlander?
somewhere else?
nowhere else?

One of my friends who works at In the Heights (I still have yet to see it) told me two days ago that the producers made a deal with a Broadway theatre last week, but he couldn't remember which one. God I would love fo this to boot out Tarzan at the Rodgers, but that's not going to happen.

It can't fill the small theatre it is in now, and is always on TDF.
Who would produce it in a larger house?

Exactly.
Why can't something just stay off-Broadway? It's achieved success where it is - let it be.
I do not understand the obsession with things moving to Broadway - they're just as great and just as legitimate off-Broadway.

I saw this while it was in preview back in January. So I'm a little foggy about the details to the plot....
*SPOILERS*
Basically, its based on a latin community in Washington Heights. Most people are immigrants or first generation citizens from latin countries. One plot involves Usnavi *the main character, played by the man who wrote the musical, Lin-Manuel Miranda* and his younger cousin running a corner deli type store. Thru this store, they interact with the other residents, whom they grew up with (such as a grandmother figure, the girl of his dreams, the local "punk kids", ect). Also, there is a family who runs a limo service struggling to put their daughter college. The daughter falls in love with a non-hispanic employee. Thats basically the beginnings of the plot without revealing too much. Sorry thats sketchy, but... yeah. Feel free to add!
*END SPOILERS*
I want this show to have all the success it deserves. I thought it was an amazing show that had me grinning from the minute it started. And I really hope this is the start of adding more latin music based shows into Broadway

Posted: 5/12/07 at 1:26amI don't like the suggestion that ITH will move to the nederlander! although the show sounds great, and I'm in love with the songs I've heard from it, I'm not reasy for RENT to move out any time soon! I do wish they had an In the Heights cast recoring already though...

Well, it's also nearly impossible for shows to make money off-Broadway. So, even if it wanted to stay off-Broadway, it might not be practical anyway. If they have the chance to move to Broadway, that's great.
But I really wish people (including tourists!) would start paying more attention to off-Broadway so that every show wouldn't feel the pressure to move to the Great White Way. (You know what would be awesome? If Rent was still off-Broadway and still successful.)

Posted: 5/12/07 at 10:21amThis show will flop if it goes to Broadway. I am sorry, but I saw it and left at intermission. Such an awful awful awful show filled with amazing wasted talent! ugh! Flop! Flop! Flop! Flop!

Posted: 5/12/07 at 11:02amIt was a fake RENT set uptown, I felt nothing for the characters, the set was a much happier version of "the heights" than it actually is at times, it just didn't appeal to me at all.

In The Heights is a FANTASTIC show and I would be THRILLED if it moved to Broadway. They ALL definately deserve it :)
p.s. Andy Blankenbuehler is the next "great choreographer" of our time. Get ready.

Posted: 5/12/07 at 5:12pmIt won't be going into the Nederlander. The producers of "Rent" are planning on staying there for two more years before closing the show for good.
