This whole production just feels like a way to remind people about why they love Lin Manuel Miranda ahead of Warriors premiering on Broadway. It’s great publicity. "

No one cares what you thought, Flash. You probably didn’t even see it.

Guys, I think we're losing the plot here.

We've known about the Warriors since the New York Post leaked it out back in mid-2023, and ITH is damn near thirty years removed from when LMM was first workshopping it back when he was in high school at Wesleyan.

Yes, it's tied to an established Creator but these days Miranda is more known for Hamilton and his Disney stuff, and the film adaptation wasn't exactly a commercial success, which means that Heights has basically spent over a decade lingering in the shadow of its younger siblings since it's initial run ended back in 2011.

I really don't see the need to turn this into some corporate strategy to test whether audiences still care about Miranda. They clearly do. The Hamilton reunion at last year's Tony Awards generated enormous attention, and it's arguably still the one performance from that broadcast people keep talking about.

I think an easy explanation is just that the production crew and cast just hold ITH in high regard because it was one of their first musicals where they saw themselves in it.

I followed most of the cast for the revival since last month, and each of them posted in their stories either pictures of their younger selves meeting the original cast back in the day, or showing themselves performing the songs from the musical before they became established actors on Broadway.

Sometimes things can just come from the heart.

But with a living playwright, these things are possible for tweaks or new variations (the movie is proof of that). There is frankly, no reason not to take a second look with a revival (there is a reason it won for music, choreography, musical and not book)- and hopefully some stronger creatives to make that happen."

You sound ridiculous.

Disagree. This is how things work. Look at DAMN YANKEES getting revisions. It's good to take a second look. It wouldn't suprise me if Hudes does - especially if a stronger director joins for a stronger revival. Welcome to the business.

You mean the 70 year old musical whose creative team has been collectively dead for 30 years?

Except they just literally don't want to? There's nothing particularly wrong with the plot of ITH.

I cannot wait to see the musical CoffeeBreak writes. The book will have no issues and we’ll all line up in droves.

I really enjoyed seeing this even if I don’t think it’s the best production. It was a nice reminder of how much I love the material. I’ve seen the movie several times but haven’t seen it on stage in about a decade. I related to the characters really differently now which isn’t something I’ve been able to experience with other shows before.

I thought the cast was great. Ishmael Gonzalez was a standout as Sonny which is a character I normally overlook. I would love to see Matte Martinez as Hamilton one day and am really excited to see Jaci Calderon in warriors this spring.

I thought the fireworks were amazing and are probably the part of this production I will remember most. I also loved the choice of having Usnavi watch Vanessa through the glass door during It Won’t Be Long Now. I wish more of the production reached those highs. Most of the choices just didn’t really stand out. I didn’t need them to reinvent the show but I wish more of it felt that inspired. I did think the use of the scripts during Alabanza was a clever solution.
