I was there last night too, uncage. I agree with mostly everything you said - can’t believe Miller was not given a nomination for this. He was incredibly good.
I loved just about every moment of this play. Goold’s direction was superb, and it was an honest joy to spend 2.5 hours with the staff of the newspaper.
But I was confused that Carvel won the Tony after seeing this. Don’t get me wrong, he was delivering a well crafted, subtle performance, but I was expecting something........ more? Or something else? Maybe a virtuouso monologue? Can’t put my finger on it.
I saw all of the nominees except DeJesus, so I can’t comment on him, but I would have given that tony to both Benjamin walker or Uranowitz for this season.
Am I missing anything here? Does anybody out there agree/ disagree with me?
