I think it was swapped to gain flow of the show, but it was placed right after Giants in the sky. New aspects that Dehnert created were having the witch cry over Rapunzel's dead body during the lament, and an appearance of the witches own mother from hell during last midnight. This is a production of Into the Woods NY audiences would want to see.
I've heard some interesting things about this production and others that just seemed like overkill. That being said, I wish I could have seen it all for myself.
Johnny, Amanda was an Associate Artistic Director at Trinity Rep when I worked there. We did Into the wood with one piano player plus Amanda, dressed as Alice (of Wonderland fame) playing about 9 or 10 different instruments herself, all orchestrated by her, if I remember correctly. She's a phenomenal talent.
Art has a double face, of expression and illusion.
She really is, and has worked wonders at the festival the past two seasons. For this staging Amanda wanted to fully embrace the score so she assembled a full 30 piece orchestra and Amanda herself was the conductor. You'd have to be in the theater yourself to understand the magic that is happening on that stage.
