FTR: They've been married for 10 years but have been together longer than that.
They've been together for 19 years.

How is "10 years actually really good for show business"?
What does this mean?
People make marriage vows for a lifetime.
What does 'show business' have to do with it? Are vows different for people in show business?
A divorce is painful. Love is lost. What is 'actually really good' about that?
Really don't understand this earlier statement.

I know this is going to sound farfetched, but didn't Idina say that she wrote most of her songs on her "I Stand" album about her personal experiences, etc… I know it was released in 2008.
If you've ever listened to those songs, though, I'm not surprised one bit. And I remember in an interview she said that Taye was annoyed with the songs about their fights or whatever so he wanted her to write a love song, and in my opinion that was the worst song on the album.
Plus, the way Taye acts during interviews just makes me weirded out. I feel like he's pretending to be someone he's not (or maybe he became his true self, who knows).
Anyway, I'm glad Idina has this show right now. The cast had amazing chemistry when I saw them on stage recently and they are always posting pictures together so at least she has a second family to turn to!
Sorry if my input seems really out there, but I recently bought the CD a few months ago and found the lyrics to a lot of her songs strangely honest/sad/way too deep to be made up.

Posted: 12/12/13 at 8:53amAm I the only one who remembers hearing that they might be getting divorced a few years ago? I vaguely remember reading an article about them going through a rough patch and that they would have a trial separation. Clearly everything worked out that time.

"There were rumors of Taye cheating? That makes me sick to my stomach."
It happens. We're all human. We make mistakes. I'm sure your nausea over a couple you don't even know will subside soon. You'll be okay.

"There were rumors of Taye cheating? That makes me sick to my stomach. Who would cheat on Idina Menzel?"
Wow, dramatic much?!

"Also shouldn't you be more interested in your own relationships?"
What a ridiculous question. Of course we're more interested in our own relationships. This is a message board, we're discussing current news here.

This reminds me of when my facebook status once changed from being In a Relationship to being Single a few years ago. I got more sympathy posts than when a relative died. Where the hell was this pity when I was IN the horrible relationship? Getting out of it was a relief.
I can only guess that some people live vicariously through others "in love", but they have no idea what the reality of that relationship is like. Anyone who is emotionally affected by this "news" needs to consider seeing a psychiatrist about their projection issues.

Are you saying that it's pathological to have empathy for the misfortunes of people you don't know?

Caring so much about the relationship of two strangers that you cry or feel sick when they split is creepier than believing that they're your friends if they smile at you at the stage door.
But if you're the kind that really gets into celebrity worship, that idea will not make any sense to you.

Crying or becoming sick over something like this is not an expression of empathy. It's an expression of unhinged obsession.

Their problem is they didn't come up with a cute combined name like Taydina.
Look at Bragelina - Brad and Angelina are still together
Bennifer - Ben and Jennifer are still together

Wait, what? Bennifer are still together? Is that a plot point of If/Then?
(I mean - you do know that the "nifer" of "Bennifer" was Lopez, not Garner, right?)

That's probably true, but I was responding to the notion that one should seek psychiatric help merely for being emotionally affected by the news.

Yeah, but it still works. Now Desilu, that's another story.

In the case of celebrities splitting up, most of the time, yes. Empathy is recognizing another's emotion, that's not what this is. There is no video footage of Idina or Taye experiencing pain over this. There is no statement from either saying how unbearable the separation is for them.
All of that pain and devastation, as far as what reality has presented to us, is being projected on them by the romantic fantasies of fanatics.
