Even though I'm not a fan, I think that she would work pretty well for the part. I just watched the video and she sounds nice for the part. I just wish her voice was a little more delicate.

Haven't gotten a chance to take a look at the audition tape yet, but as a general idea, this interests me. Saw her in Wicked years ago and was floored by her considerable talents! She has the cache among audiences with well-deserved fame from Frozen and Rent to have a significant impact at the box office (might not be feasible with her schedule, but I think the idea of her making a limited appearance in a production - even if not the current revival at the Simon - of the show as Grizabella would be awesome!

Worth noting, it's not an actual "audition tape," because that would imply she's interested in the role. It's her singing "Memory" on ELLEN for Cat Week.

The Idina hate is so strong on the board recently. She'd be fine in the role. No doubt she could sing the song in the original key. If she can sing If/Then 8 times a week she can walk out and belt out one number a night.

I don't understand how her singing 90 seconds of the song on Ellen equates to an "audition" or her being interested in the role, especially considering her oft stated desire to only play new roles.

I don't know if it's "Idina hate being strong" or maybe she's wearing out her welcome except among the most rabid fangirls.
I've always considered myself a big fan (seeing If/Then in both New York and Denver), and scouring the used CD stores for Chess and I Stand as well as buying the new stuff. I played I Stand on a loop when I first got it.
But, the recent attention due to her new album, the announcement of her engagement that seems curiously timed along with the release of the album, flashing a $30,000 engagement ring (which I know is nothing to those on each coast and within celebrity culture, but in Middle America, that's rather darned ostentatious), all while still telling the same story she's been telling for the last two years about how divorce and single parenting sucks...Admittedly, it does, but I think a lot of us know single mothers who were walked out on by their husbands and left with NOTHING. I bought her latest CD the day it came out and listened to it on the long commute - but it seemed a number of songs were of the "Taye Diggs is a bastard" theme (which apparently he was, but still...), which again we've heard for the last two years.
Gee, I sound like a jealous old fool. And I still like her, I really do...

I personally don't care about that stuff. The sound of her voice is very displeasing to my ears, and I know I'm not alone in that thought.

i think her voice is fantastic. but not every song is great even when sung by a fantastic voice.
this isn't reall an audition for Cats, if you people watched the video you would know that.
