UGHHHHHHHH. So the ugly rumor rears its nasty head once more. I refused to believe the rumor until someone posted on the Steph Block livejournal that she heard some of the ensemble members talking about how they had just received a notice that Idina would be in the LA run from July 21-31st.
???? Does anyone have any insight ??? That would be soooooooo crappy if they did that to Steph. Gah! Sometimes I hate this industry!

What I know:
When Idina left the Broadway run (before her injury) the plan was that she and Kristin Chenoweth were to do ONE show in LA. But many factors could have changed this, such as Idina's injury and Rent filming.
We'll see what happens.

Posted: 6/19/05 at 6:42pmIt's only been 5 months since she left, i don't think its true. Besides, I don't think she would miss 10 days of filming Rent to do Wicked. I'm not sure this is an accurate source because the person that posted this heard from her friend who heard from an ensemble member on a train. Could the friend have been lying?

Posted: 6/19/05 at 6:43pmNo, it's not true. It would be kind of cool, with both of them in it, but it's probably not happening.

Posted: 6/19/05 at 6:53pmNow if the both of them did the Chicago prodution, I'd be overly happy.

Posted: 6/19/05 at 6:53pmFilming of RENT has completed - or finishes in Santa Fe within a few days. I can't remember what the last report said...

I'm sorry guys, I don't mean for this to come out wrong, but how do you know Idina won't be doing it? Do you know for sure or are you just assuming she won't?
Thanks!

Posted: 6/19/05 at 7:49pmi heard this rumor also through the grapevine...i think it would be awesome if she did but doubtful...i think the only time she will prolly come back is maybe in a few years when the show is closing on broadway (similar to what adam pascal did in aida)

Posted: 6/19/05 at 7:51pmSteph has been saving herself for the LA run. It's her home.
#13re: Idina in LA run???

Posted: 6/19/05 at 8:20pmThat's more than 10 years. Wicked's good, but not THAT good.
#18re: Idina in LA run???
Posted: 6/19/05 at 8:24pmC'mon, I'm not seeing it'll go for 20 years, but I definitley think it will go for another 10. Look at Phantom, and Wizard of Oz has been a marketable story since the 30's, it won't change in 10 years.

Only so many more people can become obsessed with Wicked, and those who already are can only buy so many more tickets. Maybe some don't even buy tickets anymore, maybe they're already sick of it.
Actually, Wicked is one of those shows that'll go either way. You need a phenomenal cast to pull it off as well as the gut instinct that you'll rake in a million a week. Right now, Wicked has a steady source of income, but this is the "pop" era and that's what appeals to the audience, therefore, Wicked is successful. Within the next decade, America will find another media and another genre that they enjoy more. We're fickle like that.

Posted: 6/19/05 at 8:40pmShe won't come back to the New York production of RENT but I'm sure she'll be part of the 10 year anniversary concert.
#23re: Idina in LA run???
Posted: 6/19/05 at 8:42pmYes, but people get sick of it, then more people get into it. Really, look at Les Mis and Phantom. Did you think Phantom was gonna last almost 18 years? Besides, I was joking about the 46 thing...there are many long running musicals that have had music of the "era". Look at Rent, that's a "poppy" musical and it's going on 9 years on Broadway. I didn't say it will still be crazily popular, but I seriously think it will still be open.
