Just wanted to report that at the 7:30 showing of Wicked this Sunday, it was announced that due to illness, Idina Menzel wouldn't be continuing and her standby Eden Espinoza (sp?) would be taking over in the 2nd act. This was one of the recent "shows for the understudies" as Chenoweth, Grey, and Butz were out in the first act.
Just thought I'd share!
Eden, Bundy, Cusick as Fiyero and McCourt as the Wizard... exceptional! But kind of a bummer to see the Tony winner call it quits after one [lousy] act!
maybe she was sick. im sure she has a reason, she rarley misses performances, or so people post here, anyway.

I could have sworn I read this in two other threads. And like that proverbial roadside accident I still didn't turn away.
Oh, I know she was sick... that's what they said. I wasn't knocking Idina at all! This just makes an interesting topic, I think, as I don't think lead actors (especially Tony winners) often have to leave their shows in the middle of the show.
She must have been really sick to leave mid-show. My friend saw it Friday and said she didn't sound so great. So she probably should have even shown up!

She probably shouldn't have come, but shes so dedicated. Apparently shes only missed like 10 shows ever. I think it's great that she makes such an effort.
OMG, a Tony winner getting ill and leaving? Thats unheard of, I mean is it actually possible?
Please people the sarcasm is getting really annoying.

She does have a great attendance record - she only missed one show during her Aida run and she's only missed 3 performances in WICKED's 8 month run (if I remember correctly). Pretty remarkable.
of course you do. Look at your icon. ha

hehe! Clearly liking Kristin Chenoweth means you don't like sarcasm! Those things just go hand in hand. Doesn't everyone know that?!?
oh i know you're right they go hand in hand..........i hate kristin chenoweth
That's really wierd. Why did they arrange a 7:30 show, anyway?
I saw the show on Friday, and I thought she sounded beautiful. No sign of strain or vocal problems anywhere. In fact, she sounded better live than she did on the CD.
They did the show last night to make up for the missed performance on Tony Night.
I'm assuming not too many people knew because the lotto was one of the smallest crowds I've seen yet. Fortunately, one of my friends won because I lost...again.
This was my first time sitting on the front row and I HATED IT. It's just too damn close!

UHHHH *GASP!
People on Broadwayworld being mean!? Unheard of!

Reality alert, kiddies: She left because her voice was thrashed and she had to take a plane today to go film a role in a movie...very lah-di-dah...not being mean, just the truth.
haha, yea i shouldve known right theaterbaby?
She actually sounded fine up till Defying Gravity and then she started coughing and started lowering the key of the song. Then she didn't do the big build up at the finale of the song. She sounded perfect till that point. She gave it her best shot and you have to admire that
Very brave of her, i hope she gets better!
So many rumors. What happened is quite simple. She brought in her Tony to show it off and during intermission, I opened the stage door to the theater and threw it outside across the street and said "FETCH, WITCH!" When she went to catch it I locked her out. Plain and simple. I could hear hear screaming from outside "KRISTIN! I NEED TO CHANGE COSTUMES!" Silly girl.
Now, Who wants tea?
Oh yea......those damn rumors.
