Idina's Elphie

I don't know if anyone else has asked this question, but I was wondering if you think Idina Menzel's Elphie is going to turn into Jennifer Holiday's Effie? (Do you think she's gonna be stuck with the role)

re: Idina's Elphie

I think she'll probably continue to be best known for (and most associated with) it, but if by "stuck," you mean pigeonholed, probably not.

Well, it all depends what kind of roll it is.

Could be a kaiser roll? A hoagie roll? A bagel roll?

Depends.

What the hell is a bagel roll?

Never had one of those.

Foster, do some research before you mock someone.

A "Bagel Roll" is a form of Sushi! Usually served with
salmon, avocado, and cream cheese.

I wonder if Eyedine likes sushi.

I'm kindof new to this website, and I don't really get the eyedine thing. Can someone explain it to me?

re: Idina's Elphie

It's because people mispronounce "Idina" as "Eye-dina."

And I don't think that could happen because she's already very associated with Maureen (perhaps moreso than Elphaba). So I think she should be fine. You have to remember Jennifer had never been on Broadway before Effie AND it's not like there have been that many roles on Broadway she could have theoretically played (based on appearance). Idina meanwhile has had quite a few other roles prior to Elphaba and she could easily fit into other pre-exsisting shows.

re: Idina's Elphie

I think she'll always be introduced as "The star of Wicked and Rent" but I doubt that this is the end of her career.
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention...I'm the good cop, he's the bad cop.

re: Idina's Elphie

You behave like a little girl Foster, so SHE fits.

re: Idina's Elphie

Like everyone else has noted, she will def. be remembered as one of the stars of one of the most "edgy" musicals ever produced (RENT) and the Tony Award Winning star of the biggest blockbuster in Broadway History to date (WICKED) and IMO creating one of the most difficult female roles on Broadway (again IMO) then yea. She will be known as "Idina Menzel, star of Broadways RENT and WICKED."

you mean, you don't get when someone says EEYYEEEDDEENNUUHHH ?

Oh. Hmm. for someone who is, I assume, a Menzel fan you should know better than that.

You're not an annoying WICKED fangirl?

What a misogynistic comment, BobbyBubby.

re: Idina's Elphie

I agree with the general sentiment...I'm sure she'll play other roles, and continue to be successful, but she'll probably always be introduced as "the original Tony award winning star of Wicked."

re: Idina's Elphie

Slightly off topic, but I didn’t want to start a new thread so I’m voicing my thoughts on here.

I was just watching Company and was thinking, Idina would be great as Marta. She has that whole avant-garde New Yorker down town hip chick thing going on, and she could defiantly sing Another Hundred People. I see Marta and Maureen as being very similar characters. She may be a bit too old for it now, but she would have been great in the role.

re: Idina's Elphie

Idina will continue very nicely with her career. She has wonderful talent and her capabilities will not pigeon-hole her to one type of character.
