Idina's Replacement
#0Idina's Replacement
Posted: 12/3/04 at 8:45pmAccording to some inside sources that I have, Eden Espinosa has been offered the role of Elphaba, they're just trying to get her out of her Brooklyn contract. If she can't do it, then a black girl from Aida, Saycon something, will get the role.

Well, they need to get Eden out of BKLYN by whatever means necessary. My ears are still bleeding and I saw it over a month ago. I still wake up screaming some nights because I dream I'm back in that theatre being subjected to that screaming. Those screams, I...I just can't get them out of my head. As if someone was being tortured. My God, will I ever be able to forget?

Saycon? I loved her in Aida but she had problems hitting the high notes in The Dance Of The Robes then, how could she possibly cope with Defying Gravity?
And I have to agree with Matt... Although I never saw Eden as Elphaba but judging by her performance in Brooklyn just the thought of her screeching through the songs gives me the chills.

Posted: 12/3/04 at 10:23pmi saw eden as elphaba, and let me say that she gave one hell of a performance. Should she do the gig, she'd be terrific!

Posted: 12/3/04 at 10:40pmEven though I am EdenEspinosaLover, I would really really like her to leave BKLYN because I've heard her in "Wicked" and I like her a lot more in that. And everyone's saying how bad BKLYN is and everything. I'm not bashing BKLYN in anyway when I say this, but I think Eden deserves to be in a sucessful show that will show off how amazing she is. I love her.

If I could think of a witty freen thing, I'd post it, but its too late to be creative for me lol
I wouldn't mind Eden. Don't know how they'll get her out of Brooklyn, tho...

Posted: 12/3/04 at 11:47pmI saw Saycon as Mimi in the RENT tour about five years ago now, and other than a few diction problems here and there ("I had it when I walked in the doooo/It was pyoooo/Is it on the floooo?"), she was in fine form. I may be mistaken, but I seem to remember that she was unknown before, then picked out of a RENT casting call.

Posted: 12/4/04 at 3:28amI saw Eden Espinosa as Nessa in Wicked and thought she was great, but from what I hear her voice doesn't stay consistant in Brooklyn. If that's true then she definitly couldn't be Elphaba with Wizard And I and Defying Gravity. I think Tamyra Gray from American Idol who is now doing Bombay Dreams would make an awesome Elphaba. But truthfully I think they should hold a very extensive search because who ever takes over that role could make or break the future of that show.

the search can't be too extensive. idina's leaving in a month.

Posted: 12/4/04 at 9:28amEden was, without a doubt, the best Elphaba I've seen. Her voice was fabulous - she won't have a problem singing that role.
