I never saw anyone but Idina as Elphaba, and ya know, her being my "role model" and everything its tough to say i think someone else could do the job better. You know what i mean right? But I would really like to hear Eden and/or whoever makes the role next. They should make another soundtrack! LOL. but you have to admit, Idina DID look best with a "freen" face!

It's not a soundtrack, it's a cast recording.
Are they hoping for Brooklyn to close so Eden can do Wicked, or do they actually want to take her out of Brooklyn before her contract ends and replace her in Brooklyn with someone else?

If you want to see "Brooklyn" go and see it. Would you really not see a show because someone on this board said that it was bad? Everyone's taste is different. People here have raved about the show and other people have tore to threads so I think it would be best for you to make up your own mind.

That's interesting. I suppose that if Brooklyn were to close, it would be a done deal. If not, though, you never know whether they could buy her out of her contract. She has so much buzz right now, and if the Brooklyn team is trying to keep the show open, they might welcome the cash.
I don't know anything about this, just speculating. And it's generally safe to assume that anything is possible if someone throws enough money on the table. I daresay that if the Wicked producers want Eden badly enough, they will get her.

I heard from someone (who knows Idina) that the following 3 are being considered:
-Fantasia Barrino
-Kelly Clarkson
-Alanis Morisette
Dont start any rumors though, this is just something I heard thru the grapevine and it may not be true. I think all three of these choices are awful but thats just me...I want Eden

Posted: 12/4/04 at 11:24pmI saw Eden as Elphaba at Broadway in Bryant Park and I thought she was terrific. I definitely think she would be good for the part of Elphaba if she wasn't in Brooklyn.

I love Alanis Morrisette, my Canadian gal and all, but as Elphaba? Eeeeccchhhh....
Would totally dig Kelly though. Or Jennifer Hudson. I think Fantasia's too "Macy Gray" for the part.

Or should I say ALANIS MORISETT? I mean, who knows...maybe either one could be...different in the role, but...still.
Yeah I heard Eden E. (I can't spell it) on the Thanksgiving parade, and I really wanted to like her, but I was slightly annoyed by her voice, it was kind of... not screechy, but like it seemed like her voice was closed and kinda nasle(sp)-y. Granted, it was outside and early in the morning.

Posted: 12/4/04 at 11:54pmIf Eden knows whats good for her--she'll get her butt out of Brooklyn and into Wicked. I think everyone would agree that playing Elphaba would rocket her to stardom. I saw her in the role back in June-her singing was incredible--better than Idina's. I really hope she takes it--if she does, Wicked will continue to prosper for sure! This is so exciting. I dont know about a black Elphaba-just my opinion. Staying true to tradition and the story, and Gregory's book is important in my opinion.

Posted: 12/4/04 at 11:59pmI'm not familiar with the book, but I wouldn't think being black or white would make a difference - the girl is green.

Posted: 12/5/04 at 12:21amYeah I really doubt that true. But I do have to say that on her first album "Still I Can't Be Still" I think Idina does sound similar to Alanis on a few songs--Larissa's Lagoon especially. Take a listen and you might see what I mean. :)

Posted: 12/5/04 at 12:43amMerrydothe, I find your comment completely ridiculous just as ridiculous as those asking if green makeup works on black skin. Not once has it ever said that Elphaba or The Wicked Witch was white so how are they breaking tradition is blowing my mind since the only color people have seen the Witch as is green. And if you want to stay true to Gregory's book then Fiyero should be black but I don't see you complaining about that.

Posted: 12/5/04 at 12:49amI agree with you on the Fieryo subject. He should have dark skin and the markings mentioned in the book. He also isn't the same character at all--in the book he seems to be a bit awkward in the beginning, with the whole coming into the classroom and ruining the spell scene-certainly doesn't live up to his image in the show. I didn't mention that, since this thread isn't about that. And I'm sorry I offended you, I should open my mind up to other types of people playing Elphaba-you are absolutely right. I sincerely aplogize.
