If they are both up for a Tony, who do you think will win?
Donna Murphy
lol--of the two, it would seem to be Kristin's.
Depends who the other actresses in the category are!
Maybe neither of the two!!
If they're smart, they'll seperate them in Supporting Actress and Lead Actress categories so that'll be 2 Tony's in their show instead of just 1.

God this is an instance when I really want them to have a tie. Idina and Kristin were so amazing in their own ways. Kristen was the dumb blonde, she was so funny, and her voice is very good. She is an excellent actress, and deserves the Tony for Glinda. But Idina, on the other hand, had to wear the green makeup and even though it's not that much (I talked to one of the producers about it, it's only on her face and lower arms, the rest is a body suit), I think it takes a lot of devotion to put that makeup on. Her voice is absolutely incredible. It's so powerful, when she sang "Defying Gravity", it gace me chills and still does whenever I go to the website. Idina is also an excellent actress, and deserves the Tony just as well.
Eh hem, her name is KristIn.
I think it'd be great to have a tie, but if there isn't: Kristin would probably win, while I would rather see Idina take this one home, she's long overdue.
They were both stellar, and there's no doubt this will be a close one, I would love to see a tie.

Ties only happen in the fevered imagination of Broadway message board posters because people can not choose. One of them will win it, probably Kristen, but there will be hopes of a tie and worries of splitting the vote and the award going to somebody from another show, probably Donna Murphy. But that probably won't happen.

BillFlinn, that's a good idea, but who would go into which category??
Namo, it's Kristin, with an I damnit!
Idina would have to be nominated as the lead if they were to be placed in different categories, due to the fact that it's really about the Wicked Witch of the West, not Glinda.
I doubt this or a tie will happen.

You're quite welcome dahling
But the entire story is Glinda's memory, so it's her version of the story, so they could argue her as the lead.
Do you think the producers might try to get them a joint nomination?
That's a possiblity. I'm seeing the show in less then a month so I can't REALLY comment yet, but it sounds like the both of them are phenomenal in the show- the people here and the critics seem to agree on that. The one thing I would absoltulety hate is if neither of them got it. It's apparent that one of them definitely deserves it, although I don't really know much about Wonderful Town. I really hope that one of them get it. We have a while, though. I'll tell you who I think should get it once I see the show- December 3rd, baby!
Honestly, I think Idina deserves it more, though the both of them are fabulous.

Idina deserves it, Kristin will win (mainly because she has all the memorable and funny lines and Tony voters love her).

my two cents...
I also think Idina should win. Of of both characters being played, her's is by far the more complex and seems to be the more demanding both vocally and emotionally and she plays it with great finess.
Don't get me wrong - Kristin does a phenomenal job too, so don't jump on me. Someone once misread me as saying that Kristin doesn't work hard, and that's simply not true. But, again, I do think that Idina's character is much more difficult.
I think it should be Kate over Merideth, defini... oh sorry, wrong "vs." thread.
I would love to see Idina take the Tony and prove the critics wrong.
Notice the NY Times big two page spread of quotes today. The Producers have wisely divided the quotes 50-50 toward the divas. The show is taking the SIDE SHOW approach of promoting them as a duo, which is fair and wise.
Though the material is in no way similar (don't beat me up, posters) ...I think the division of musical labor here is reminiscent of FOLLIES. Dorothy Collins (Elphaba position) had the more emotional, but "plainer," less flashy role, and Alexis Smith (except for "Could I Leave You?") the acerbic comedy and sophisticated glitz. Alexis got the reviews, got the Tony and all others, even though Dorothy had to carry the show musically. The roles really were equal, but, per the recent book on FOLLIES' development, as the show neared B'way -- and "Lucy and Jesse" was written -- Alexis got the lion's share of the attention. I remember it clearly -- we had no boards like this then, but there was constant discussion about how Dorothy was overlooked, just like Idina today.
theatreguy, I hope one of those stupid dual nominations is not done in this case. it makes the tony commitee seem even more moronic than they often are.

I would have to say a tie! But neither of them could be classified into supporting or lead actress! Because Kristy is the lead and so is dina! But if I had to choose I would say, dont be mad Kris, but dina! She was just so amazing and tottaly deserves a Tony this time around!
Even though Kristin is telling the story, she is telling a story that revolved around Elphaba. I mean you don't hear or see any details of Glinda's bhild years, nor do we see if she has a family or what they are like. On top of that, Elphaba is pretty much always on stage, except for the beginning of both acts, and when she's not on stage, the topic of discussion or the song is her. I'd say since the story revolves around her, Elphaba would have to be considered the larger part if they were to put them in different categories, which would be nice, but since they are both billed above the title, there's afat chance of that happening.
Like Gothamp said, Kristin will probably win it, while Idina is more deserving of it. WHatever the case, it's unfortunate to the other actress, because they were both stunning.
Then again, the Tonys are around 6 1/2 months away, you never know who else might come around and blow us away.

Let's just give it to Sutton again and be done with the whole thing.
