Let's remember, these are opinions, and while we can respectfully disagree with each other, it's best not to be mean to each other.
MY OPINIONS
If "Spring Awakening" had not won Best Musical, "Mary Poppins" would have
If "Jersey Boys" had not won Best Musical, "The Color Purple" would have
If "Monty Python's Spamalot" had not won Best Musical, "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" would have
If "Avenue Q" had not won Best Musical, "Wicked" would have
If "Hairspray" had not won Best Musical, "Movin' Out" would have
If "Thoroughly Modern Millie" had not won Best Musical, "Mamma Mia!" would have
If "The Producers" had not won Best Musical, "The Full Monty" would have
If "Contact" had not won Best Musical, "Swing!" would have
If "Fosse" had not won Best Musical, "It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues" would have
If "The Lion King" had not won Best Musical, "Ragtime" would have
Are you truly asking WOULD have or SHOULD have?
Either way:
"If "Thoroughly Modern Millie" had not won Best Musical, "Mamma Mia!" would have"

Kindly go the fu*k away. See how polite I am?
Would have, should haves are totally different
I pretty much agree, except for a few.
If Jersey Boys had not won Best Musical, I think The Drowsy Chaperone would have.
If Thoroughly Modern Millie had not won Best Musical, I think Urinetown would have.
You know, I might actually take this thread seriously IF it was created by anyone else.
Just stop with the dumbass sock-puppeteering.
If Spring Awakening had not won the Tony, Grey Gardens would have. Not Mary Poppins.

Those simply don't make sense.
Mary Poppins didn't have a chance. It should have and would have been Grey Gardens hands down.
For a little historical representation:
If "Music Man" had not won Best Musical, "West Side Story" would have
If "Sound of Music" and "Fiorello" had not tied for Best Musical, "Gypsy" might have been in there somewhere...

If FROGS had wings they would be BUMBLEBEES.
If I "Avenue Q" had not won Best Musical, "Caroline, or Change" would have.

No way Caroline Or Change was not good lol. I agree with most of those however Urinetown would have to be in that list for sure. I haven't had a chance to listen to much of Grey Gardens yet. Mamma Mia would have been an obvious choice and Jersey Boys deserved it.
Totally agree about The Producers and The Full Monty. I saw them both and just hated it for The Full Monty that The Producers just about owned the Tony's that year, because I thought The Full Monty was delightful.
>Mamma Mia would have been an obvious choice<
Obvious? With Urinetown having won Book, Score and Director? I don't think so. Urinetown would have won. The producers of Mamma Mia would just have to content themselves with their billions.
