If you had two and a half hours to live...

Another vote for the OBC of Rent.

Also, very. well said Emcee. Rent may not be the best Broadway show ever, but it definately is the most "important" piece of this generation (I use " " because important isn't the exact word I'm looking for, but it works). The topics it deals with are universal, def. a show everyone should see.

Plus, with such a cast, I'd love for it to be the last thing I see... lol (besides my loved ones, of course lol)

I'm with you, Chip. Rent?

But I don't think I'd choose Merman's Gypsy. I'd want to see West Side Story about a week into the original 1957 Broadway run.

Guys, for whatever reason, Rent is very powerful and speaks to people. I mean, you just feel it.
Cara-I'm feelin' kind of betrayed though, I thought for sure in your last few hours of life you would choose something more-eh, Sutton or Raul related...

You know, I almost said A Chorus Line, but had to be realistic...

If I knew I was going to die in 2 and a half hours I would take some NiQuill so I would be asleep when it happens...so I therefore wouln't be able to see a show I'd be at home, asleep in my bed.

I would see the Rent obc on broadway, there were too many sound issues off-bway for it to be really worthwhile.

Some random rent hostility.....ANYWAY

I was lucky enough to catch the OBC of rent and although it wasnt opening night, it was such a magical evening. Such a true energy that you rarely find anymore so i totally respect that answer being so popular, BUT thats not my vote.

Im going with Jennifer Holidays final perf of dreamgirls. I can only IMAGINE what she did THAT night!

It's hardly hostility toward Rent. I saw the OBC of Rent, too, shortly after it opened, and although I was the target audience, I was not all that impressed or moved. I love 525,600 Minutes, but the rest of the show just didn't come together for me. Difference of opinion - that's what makes this world go 'round, for good or bad.

In my last hours on earth, I wouldn't go see a show, either; I'd hang out with my family. But that wasn't the hypothetical that was posed.

West Side Story OBC. All the way.

While I do love FB, Coine2. I'm with musicalmjk here opening night of A Chorus Line.

Totally the OBC of West Side Story. then the revival of Cabaret @ studio 54, and the New York cast of the Last 5 Years, just to see Norbert do this part live.

Mom-
I adore A Chorus Line, but nothing comes between me and FB.
I would want to die laughing....
I'm surprised at you Mom.
I do have to say if I had 5 hours, I would want to see Avenue Q one last time as well.

Sorry - I wouldn't spend my last two and a half hours at a Broadway show.

I saw the Rent OBC at NYTW and then in previews on Broadway -- it didn't do much for me, either time. Sorry.

I saw Jennifer during her last week in Dreamgirls -- her voice was in tatters at that point, a shadow of what it had been a few months before. She willed herself through the show, but it was a very raw, gritty and patchy vocally (and not in a good way). If I were to get in a time machine to see her do that performance again, it would be for her opening night performance (which is legendary) not her closing night performance (which was mostly about her screaming her way through it hoarsely with half a voice).

I also saw the OBC of "A Chorus Line" -- Incredible. Electric. Magic.

If I had to chose just one -- either the Dreamgirls opening night, Merman's opening night in Gypsy, Follies OBC, Brando/Tandy Streetcar or Laurette Taylor in Glass Menagerie.

Oh Calcutta!

Or perhaps, I'd pick Les Mis, because I would then have to die during Act 2. (only 2 1/2 to live, right?) And that would be splashy, to die in a crowded theatre, right in my seat. It would be a good way to go. Hopefully I'm old though.

There was a comercially released VHS of Oh Calcutta, but I don't think it has made the DVD transfer. It's pretty awful. Like a bad Carol Burnett Show with nudity (most of which, you don't want to see naked in the first place).
